Hi all,

Who was the best center ever in your opinion

I think It would be between Kara wolters or janel mccarville if I had to guess

Any other thoughts?

I would not say Kara Wolters. As my dad put it, she had good hands, but clumsy feet. Just throwing out a few names in no particular order, Michelle Snow, Brittney Griner, Amanda Zahui B., to name a few. And McCarville.

To throw out some more names....

Lusia Harris
Lisa Leslie
Rebecca Lobo
Brittney Griner
Sylvia Fowles
Anne Donovan
Courtney Paris
Jantel Lavender

Plus a bunch of forwards who also played a significant amount of time at center, like Breanna Stewart, Candace Parker, and Cheryl Miller.

If you wanted to include their pro careers in the discussion, there are even more, like Yolanda Griffith, who didn't even play Div I ball.

In addition to the names mentioned, I would add:

Lauren Jackson also played center in addition to forward. LJ was a phenomenal player.

Margo Dydek holds the WNBA record for most blocks in a Career. She was 7'2".

Taj McWilliams-Franklin ranks 2nd for Career O-Boards and 9th for Career D-Boards.

I assumed that we were only including college careers since this is the college forum, but I still think we're missing some people.

I'll add Tina Charles and Ruth Riley to the list of nominees, but cast my vote for Griner. It will be decades, if ever, before her blocks record gets broken.

If we're just talking college careers, it's pretty hard to look past Courtney Paris. 112 straight games with a double-double ...

Good list when only considering college play. I add Sylvia Fowles.

But of course! Cool Courtney single-handedly led me to being a devout Oklahoma fan for many seasons, and her heroics are legendary. And she did all this while (I believe) never being taller than 6'2", despite always listing at 6'4". However....she's a prime example how NCAA excellence doesn't always translate to the next level. But her legacy will stand a looong time.

By contrast, another favorite player at the "5" position is someone who was unnoticed in college (D3) but amazing at the pro level, into her 40s: Mama Taj! Taj McWilliams Franklin earned her rings in the wnba, mixing it up with much bigger centers but always playing with an intelligence and efficiency that made her invaluable.
