Loyd the odd WNBA member missing from the roster. Sessions makes no sense.

PG: Canada/Sessions
SG: Sykes/Ogunbowale
SF: DeShields/Collier/Samuelson
PF: Charles/Nelson-Ododa
C: Fowles/Dolson/Williams

Remember, Team USA doesn’t need to win this tournament. They’ve already locked up a spot in the Olympics by virtue of winning the 2018 World Cup. But considering the toughest competition will be Canada and maybe Brazil, they still might win it even with only a couple of veteran players.

The Vets
Fowles - The only healthy and available player from the Designated Eight.
Charles - Considering how relatively poor her WNBA season was and how stacked the Team USA post is with MVP level players (Fowles, Griner, Ambassador, Delle Donne, Wilson, Ogwumike), Charles may feel a need to audition for a spot on the Olympic team.

The rest of the team
This tournament becomes an important showcase for them to reveal who has what it takes to make the senior national team. But there’s still no guarantee that any of them will make the Olympic team. If Maya gives up her spot and McCoughtry is still iffy, I could see DeShields and/or Collier grabbing spots. I don’t think we’ll see anything like Tuck stumbling onto the roster like what happened in the World Cup team.

The way the Oly committee works, the vets will have their spots on the team even if they have to be wheeled out in wheelchairs.

Sykes is still my favorite player, but I'd put Arike in the starting lineup.

nelson ododa didn't show enough last year in college to even be considered here...other than she played for UConn.

So who are they playing? Is Canada part of this? I would think they would beat this Team USA.

Geno must be overrated if he had three of the best players in the entire United States, at any level, on his team last year and couldn't even make the National Championship game. 😭

Canada will play without Kia Nurse who is rehabbing an elbow injury.

just about any pro guard or pro forward would be an upgrade over Sessions and Ododa...and many college level as well. Why is it that I'm surprised... or not. USA basketball is a political entity. You pat my back, and I'll pat yours.

No Achonwa for Canada. Sort of in her place, they have a 17-year-old PF named Aaliyah Edwards.

How long has Nurse been injured? Does this explain the decline in her level of play toward the end of the season?

Nurse injured her left elbow against Connecticut on July 24th. She's right-handed, so it's not obvious if the injury affected her shooting. Nonetheless, it's not impossible. Nurse is a very streaky shooter who needs consistent mechanics, and if you're favoring your support arm it could still affect your shot.

I'll add in that it appeared she could barely dribble with her left hand, which seemed to affect her game in general. I was at that game, seated close. She was in significant pain for sure.

I mean ND had 5-2,000 point scorers, the #1, 6, 11, 16, and 19 picks in the WNBA draft, they were the defending National Champions who brought back 4 starters...and the 5th starter was a two time All-America, Conference POY and conference DPOY.......and they didn't win, sooooo.

Nelson-Ododa was on the Gold Medal winning 3x3 Team last month at the Pan Am Games. I have a feeling all four members were invited since Hebert and Christyn Williams were also in camp. Ionescu probably declined.
