Trump raises $24.8 million for reelection in less than 24 hours, RNC says

Quote:
President Trump held a rally in Orlando on Tuesday night billed as the kickoff to his reelection campaign. And according to the Republican National Committee, he received nearly $25 million in contributions in less than a day.

RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel announced Wednesday that Trump raised a “record breaking $24.8M in less than 24 hours for his re-election.”

“The enthusiasm across the country for this President is unmatched and unlike anything we’ve ever seen!” she tweeted.

25,000 people at the rally last night and probably more outside the arena. That does not sound like a really unpopular president the mainstream media pushes everyday. Not to mention there are a lot of silent Trump supporters out there who can't go around making MAGA apparel.

He's getting re-elected for sure.

None of the calls for impeachment, Mueller report or bad press has made his base waver. Republicans are playing the long game because they need more lifetime-appointed federal judges.

There is fake outrage. People are lying in these polls and will turn around and vote for him because of the immigration issue.

Trump has a lot of wealthy supporters who only care about money.

They don't care about immigration because it ends up providing them cheap labor, and they also don't have to live near illegal immigrants. They don't care about student loan relief because they don't have any. They barely think about healthcare because they can afford to pay for their own insurance policy. They don't care about homelessness because the homeless don't live in their neighborhood

Religion, abortion, LGBT issues etc aren't even important to them because they can handle this within their homes. You only hear noise about these issues because the poorer segments of the country need to feel like their opinions are actually valid and important, so republican politicians pander to them for votes

He will get the money from the rich and the votes from the poor(er) republicans.

Trump is a very unpopular president. His numbers are constantly around 41-42%, which is staggeringly bad for a good-to-great economy.

On the other hand, he is very popular among Republicans. His policy decisions are constantly pandering to his base. With the partisan divide in this country, it should not be surprising at all that he is able to fundraise like crazy and sell out rallies. There are an estimated 252,063,800 eligible voters in this country. If, let's say 30% of them are Republicans, that is 75.6 million people. 25,000 people would be ~.004% of the total. Remember, he is not splitting this with other primary opponents. He is the GOP ticket.

It is very possible that he could be reelected. If the Democrats nominate someone who cannot appeal to independents or who is very unpopular themselves, any advantage based on his unpopularity would evaporate quickly. Though in the Democrats' favor is that Trump seems to be uninterested in attempting to expand his base. So he keeps doubling down on policy that fills up GOP rallies and gets GOP donors to break out their checkbooks but that actually turns off swing voters. And we saw in the 2018 midterms what the consequences of that sort of decision making.

The simple truth of election math is that a GOP candidate cannot win simply by appealing to his or her base. There is not enough of them. One of the things Trump actually succeeded at in the last election was somehow convincing voters that he was the more central candidate. Mostly with his blue color worker populism. But with his track record he will not be able to do that again (well, unless the Dems nominate someone calling themselves a socialist, then who knows who will own the center--it'll be a crapshoot). This is also the reason why the GOP works so hard on voter suppression techniques. Decreasing Democratic turnout is the other way they can win. But with the record turnout in 2018, the Democrats seem very motivated so low turnout does not seem to be the biggest threat in 2020.

he's so popular he lost the popular vote in 2016.

with more foreign adversarial help, more voter suppression, voting hacking, more corporate media complicity, and a war with Iran, he certainly may be re-elected.

i'm not sure i'm buying any information the gop, and certainly anyone in trump's campaign sphere, is selling. i'll take it as fake news until that amount is corroborated. if trump can play that game, so can we.

all that said, i am no less terrified. more each day.

I've read that the site has a capacity of 20,000 and was not full, and that the permit was for 17K.

Most likely, Chump's crowd size claim was as accurate as the one made on the day the piece of shit was sworn in.

Oh hell yeah. 2020 scares the crap out of me. I work to make sure my fears aren't irrational because there are plenty of reasons to have rational fear.

For instance, I am less worried about red hat wearing cultists showing up in masses to hear the latest from their Supreme Leader, or them giving him money...because in the words of Forrest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does"; rather I am more worried about the Supreme Court allowing outright voter suppression with the citizenship question on the 2020 census even though they have smoking gun evidence in hand.

i'm equally terrified on all fronts. as much as i detest trump, it terrifies me that all these kool-aid-drinking inbreds of his ilk are running around my country. the main reason i left. can't imagine ever living in the usa again.

On the topic of money: Unlike 2016, when Hillary far outraised and and outspent Trump and had a much bigger and much more experienced campaign staff and field presence, Trump in 2020 should have quite a war chest and experienced staff presence.

This. Over and OVER.

It's one thing to lie, hyperbolize, and fabricate, but it's grown and morphed. His "experienced" people are now just that much better at The Propaganda.

i really don't know in which thread to drop this link, so i'll just drop it here. this is the shit that makes me crazy - all the shit trump and his minions are doing behind the scenes, so much shit that no one can keep track of it all, so that one day, when it's too late, we'll realize how much we've lost. this can be the only logical reason the gop has left this guy to run loose.

I’m a Journalist but I Didn’t Fully Realize the Terrible Power of U.S. Border Officials Until They Violated My Rights and Privacy

a friend of mine who is brasilian but has been living legally in the usa since his teens recently mailed in his passport to be renewed. (i know, right? i'd never put my passport in the mail, but . . .) then he got a letter from the passport processing center that his envelope arrived empty; there was no passport, so he'd have to fill out another form reporting that he lost it. under normal circumstances, this incident wouldn't be suspicious. but we're not living under normal circumstances anymore, in any way, shape or form.
