Washington's attendance has definitely increased, as noted by the information toad455 has posted in this thread.

The game against the Phoenix Mercury on July 10 was held at the Capital One Arena, which had an announced crowd of 15377.

The other seven home games (to date) were played at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, with a total attendance of 26365 and an average of 3766.43 -- which is 89.68 percent of capacity.

And my guess is that those 3,773 tickets sold are to actual human bodies -- or at least most of them.

Impressed by Chicago and Dallas. Also Seattle despite not playing in Key Arena. League is almost near their final average from last season. Liberty moving to Brooklyn should boost the league up next season. Hopefully the Mercury fans still show up in their alternative venue.

I hope Michael Alter is making some money in Chicago. He's traveled a long, hard road and spent a lot to get the franchise where it is.

When they moved to Allstate Arena, he was quoted in saying they were close to making a profit. Maybe with their move to Wintrust and their increased attendance this year, they're making money (finally).

All in all, a good year ... Washington's drop is obviously not an indication of much of anything, and their move seems to have been a success.

Good crowds in Phoenix and L.A. all year. It's understandable that Las Vegas is down a little (curiousity factor is gone) and hopefully they build from this point on.

I'm surprised Vegas isn't drawing better with all the hype surrounding them this season. They acquired Cambage and have been labeled a title contender since the trade happened. That, plus three #1 picks have put them in the spotlight more than most teams.

It does.
And in terms of actual humans in the building, I don't think that a drop of 1,498 is even physically possible. If anything attendance appears to be up.

Mystics numbers need to come with an "*". They're selling out the place and it's legit. Wish their arena held more(5k+).

Just based on watching the games on TV, or LP it does seem that the Mystics arena is producing a very nice crowd atmosphere. That does seem to be a big advantage for the smaller arenas, even WCC if it's full. Put these kind of crowds in NBA sized arena and they would look pathetic and I doubt the fans would be as engaged.

Go to a high school game in a packed gym and it's fun ... even if you're watching high school players.

In California, they play the state championship games in the Kings' arena, so the same 800 people are barely visible -- and the atmosphere is dull as dirt.

I've always felt the ideal size for a WNBA arena is about 7,500, but there just aren't many of those around.

That's why I love kids day - reminds me of the Sectional Tournament in Indiana HS basketball when I was growing up. All the kids wearing school colors screaming their heads off was quite an experience.

Having now recently been to Mohegan Sun Arena, that's really the ideal size/arena. ~9,500 capacity. Allstate Arena also seems ideal. Yes, Westchester when full is loud, but not ideal. It's a glorified high school gym that sells Nathan's hotdogs and beer.

But then, there are some bigger arenas that work fine for smaller crowds just by curtaining off a top tier, or putting a tiny bit of effort into the lighting and selling the right seats first. People have always said good things about Seattle's crowds, and KeyArena holds over 17,000 if it wants to. Minnesota became a great crowd as well once the team got good and everyone bought in, and Target Center holds nearly 19,000 when they want it to.

The problem is when the crowd is way smaller than even a lower tier, so it looks awful on TV and the minimal noise just rattles around in the empty space. You obviously minimise the chances of that if you move into a tiny place like the Mystics have done, but you also limit your growth and to some extent make yourselves appear small-time. Where possible, you don't want the WNBA aligning with the G-League, you want it aspiring to be alongside the NBA.

Hence why I'm not a fan of moving the Dream to College Park. A nicer place than WCC, but only 3,500 capacity. I really wish the new Mystics arena had the option to expand their capacity.

A San Francisco radio station broadcast from the Warriors new arena this morning and the main guy kept raving about it. Warriors will have a preseason game on October 5th, but Metallica will open the facility on September 6th.

Considering that the bad teams stayed bad all year, thus taking the air out of a lot of matchups, and the loss of reported attendance in Washington, this has been a good year for the WNBA.

I don't how the TV ratings went, but arena attendance appeared to be solid all summer.

I was very impressed with the Storm fandom this year. Having the year split between the Washington Huskies' arena and the Angel of the Winds arena an hour north in Everett, I figured our numbers would tank, especially with Stewart and Bird out for the year. But the crowds have been very energetic and great. They have announced a couple of sell-outs of around 9,000. During last Sunday's game, the decibel meter went over 100!

These arenas aren't Key Arena, but Storm fans have very impressively supported their team this year and I expect next year as well. Bodes well for the franchise going forward. A great mix of people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, etc. Feels like a cross section of the Seattle area.
