I saw an interview where Conte says that he overhead 1988 Korean Olympic officials talking to USA coaches about how some famous USA athletes had failed tests, but that they never announced/penalized them so not to tarnish their games. He also claims that there is a test that they could run on past urine samples to show cheating was going on. I think he was talking about athletes using testosterone as a performance enhancer. He specifically mentioned how Usain Bolt and another Jamaican runner had never again come close to reaching their 2009 records and felt that looking at their 2009 samples would reveal elevated testosterone (or something like that). But the athletic official he talked to about doing as much said that no one in the sport wanted to find out something like that as they didn't want the bad publicity.

Yep. He said a whole lot. It's not the cover-up that surprises me but the amount of people who want to cheat even if he means a shorter life expectancy.
As for 1988:

It's obvious who's he's referring to when he states in the clip above, "The ones that retired at the height of their career."
Also, that Ben Johnson final was shameful. Almost every sprinter in that final was dirty. Props to Calvin Smith who should be the gold medalist of that race.

EX-TEAMMATE: FLO-JO, LEWIS USED DRUGS
Quote: |
Robinson, once a top U.S. quarter-miler, says he sold human growth hormone to Griffith Joyner, received steroids from Kersee, watched Lewis get an injection of what ''might have been testosterone'' and saw Tellez dispense ''blue pills . . . that looked like dianabol.''
The use of steroids, testosterone and HGH is forbidden by national and international sports federations and the International Olympic Committee.
''I can`t wait to see Darrell face-to-face,'' Griffith Joyner said via telephone Wednesday. |
Quote: |
In the story, Robinson says that Griffith Joyner asked him about both steroids and the price of HGH during a practice session on UCLA`s track in early 1988. Robinson, who admits to having sold such substances, says he told Griffith Joyner that HGH was ''$2,000 for 10 c.c.''
A few days later, Robinson says, Griffith Joyner came to him with ''twenty $100 bills'' and told him, ''if you want to make $1 million, you`ve got to invest some thousands.'' Robinson says he delivered the HGH to Griffith Joyner soon after that.
''I never asked Darrell about any kind of steroids or HGH,'' said Griffith Joyner, winner of three gold and one silver medal at the 1988 Olympics.
''I can`t figure out why he would say things like that. I`ve always heard he told lies, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. The money had to be good for him to tell a story like that.''
Robinson, 25, reportedly was paid $25,000 by Stern for the story, headlined, ''The Stuff Medals Are Made Of.''
Kersee and Lewis could not be reached for comment. |

The uneasy death of Florence Griffith Joyner
Quote: |
"She passed the final, ultimate drug test," her husband and coach, Al Joyner, insisted after the autopsy results were announced Oct. 22. But a coroner's spokesman denied that the autopsy proved Joyner had never used such drugs or banned substances. "It was our job to determine the cause of death, and that's what we did," said Sheriff-Coroner spokesman Lt. Hector Rivera.
Chief Deputy Coroner Jacque Berndt requested that Joyner's body specifically be tested for steroids, but was informed that there was not enough urine in her bladder and that the test could not accurately be performed on other biological samples. |
Quote: |
Finally, on Oct. 22, a month and a day after Joyner died, the sheriff-coroner's office released an amended cause of death. Changing the original document, which listed "pending investigation" under "immediate cause," the new document listed three causes:
1) positional asphyxia 2) epileptiform seizure 3) cavernous angioma, left orbital frontal cerebrum
The third "cause" referred to a brain abnormality discovered during the autopsy that made Joyner subject to seizures. In lay person's terms, the coroner found Joyner had suffocated in her pillow during a severe epileptic seizure.
Experts on epilepsy immediately insisted the finding of death was extremely unlikely. "This is a distinctly unusual complication of an epileptic seizure," Dr. Michael Risinger of the Stanford Comprehensive Epilepsy Center told the Los Angeles Times. Interviewed by Salon, Risinger amplified his remarks. "It's true persons can asphyxiate during epileptic seizures. But it's very rare." Risinger wanted to reassure others suffering from epilepsy that Joyner's death was a highly unlikely result of a seizure, he said. |
