As usual, details are rather vague at this point.

Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, and Mozambique are qualified by reaching the semifinals of the last tournament.

Cameroon just hosted a two-games series against the Democratic Republic of Congo after Gabon withdrew and they won both games to seal a spot.

Presumably there will be other qualifiers at some point.

Cape Verde hosted Guinea for a berth. Batouly Camara of UConn led the visitors to a 50-48 win on Friday then the hosts won 60-48 today to advance. For some reason there are no boxscore pages, but you can see results from the team stats pages:

Uganda played host to four teams playing for one guaranteed spot.

Egypt beat Kenya in the final game while Tierra Henderson tried to singlehandedly drag Rwanda there.

Tunisia and the Ivory Coast are the other teams that we did not know were in the tournament until now.

The tournament starts tomorrow with games on ESPN+ in the United States.

I probably will not have more confirmed rosters until Sunday's games.

Thanks so much for this ... and all you do.

Nigeria is loaded, and Cape Verde has a lot of American college players.

You're welcome!

Nigeria does seem to be getting better at getting players both for this team and their men's team, but it is a bit scary to think how much stronger they would be if they could get everyone available to them.

The size of the Cape Verdean population abroad relative to the population there does explain why they should also be relying heavily on American players, but hopefully the youth in the team increases the number of professional players available to them in the future. A few of their players are in coaching already and presumably have not had that much time to stay in basketball shape yet they are a decent team in this tournament.

The first knockout round:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2019/08/afrobasket-day-4-recap-august-14th/

Cameroon's collapse was pretty surprising, but given their roster, an early exit was not totally unexpected.

The first four teams to also secure advancement in the Olympic qualifying process were no surprise:

Mozambique will host the qualifying tournament, which seems reasonable enough.
