I used to be able to see all of their articles. The first one that I accessed I would get a pop-up that said that my ad blocker was on and ask me to remove it or purchase a subscription. The pop-up had an X that I could close it and continue reading.

Yesterday, that X disappeared. Evil or Very Mad I disabled the ad blocker to read the story about the hockey brothers that died of an opioid overdose on the same day (I remember it when it happened, it was in South Bend metro area), and was quickly reminded why I had put it on to begin with. The ads on USA Today make it almost impossible to read anything. They are EVERYWHERE on that site and then one will pop up and cover the entire monitor.

I never pay much attention to my ad blocker icon at the top of my screen. I know that it will show me how many ads it's blocking. It does it's thing and I move on.

I just opened another tab and went to USA Today. Thirtyfive ads are being blocked on just the home page!!!

Now I have to decide if it's worth $5.00 a month to subscribe.

You are advocating for not having to see ads and also not pay money? How will USA Today and others stay in business?

I don't think that's what I said. I'm ok with some ads. USA Today's are overwhelming! CNN also has 35 on their home page.

A couple of local (Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, Indiana) TV station web sites only have 12 and 6 respectively.

And when the ad opens a new window and covers the screen, well, that's just asking for me to delete their bookmark.
