I dearly hope I'm wrong, but to me it looked like it was the ankle and it was bad. But I don't even want to mention that annoying Greek bastard... |

Hope Stewart is okay. But if it is serious, the Storm just took a big hit for this season.

its not when she landed, its when she went up - seeing her NOT grab her knee - achilles no doubt in my mind.
similar to nykesha sales at uconn her senior year.

Yeah just saw the replay. She planted her right foot very strange when she went up for the jumpshot. It wasnt the landing.

That was my thought too. Didn't look like an ankle roll and she grabbed at her Achilles. Only one reason you do that. With that reaction I'd guess total tear.
I had a partial - even hanging by just a thread the pain is typically far less.
Would love to be wrong.

Ugh, it's definitely confirmed? The fact that the injury reportedly occurred when she landed on Griner's foot makes me think it isn't achilles, when a rupture happens at take off (vs. landing). I'm hoping it's just a bad high ankle sprain and that's why she was grabbing the back of her foot.
If it is the achilles (I'm hearing it's not confirmed), then my best to her. Sales and Catchings certainly went on to have MVP-esque All Star appearances and long careers after their tears. She will recover because she is young and determined.

The landing on Griner seems incidental and a bit misleading.
If you watch the video she lands on Griner a bit with her left foot.
Her right is injured. Seemed to grab on the take off. Looked to me like she made a point not to even try to land on her right foot.

Nothing much is really 'confirmed'. Everyone's taking suppositions and guesswork from different sources. It's not like there's an MRI machine in the bowels of a 2,500-seat arena in a small Hungarian city. But these are things that people can often take a pretty good guess at immediately.
And no, it didn't happen when she landed on Griner's foot. Griner did pretty much slide under her, but you can see on the video that she hurts herself on the takeoff, not the landing. |

Dont need an MRI to confirm an achilles tear though. Docters in the stadium said it was an achilles tear. Apparently you can feel it pretty easily when its gone. Her dad hinted at it aswell. He said that he wished that it was her ACL because he thought that would be easier to come back from.
