The NCAA tournament was supposed to start tomorrow. Even though the games won't be played I will post each game on the game discussion page with a poll as to who wins. The first round will be posted today with 2 days to vote. The winners from each game's poll will then move forward, and polls will be listed for the second round. This will be continued through the final game to determine the national champion.

I decided to use Charlie Creme's last bracketology to come up with the Bracket:

http://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/bracketology

Please vote and add any comments on the games as you wish.

Fun idea! No time to play right now, but what a way to beat the winter/Covid 19 blahs!!

You could save yourself a lot of typing and just put up the 8-9's and 7-10's. I can't imagine that a majority would vote for other upsets.

Thanks for doing that, but I've got finger cramps from clicking through 32 games. Very Happy

It is only for the first round. Next round is a much easier 16 games, and if you use the next topic or previous topic buttons it isn't too bad.

I really don't know how the votes will go. There is at least one 6-11 matchup that I could see going the other way, but I am also curious about how many other upset picks there will be for other games.

What happens if there is a tie?

Thanks for posting this. In all these years, I don't think I've even once used "view next topic", but it's super helpful for this.

I agree. I've never used it. Never even noticed it! Smile

If you go on the Game Discussion page, you just click on a game and if you haven't voted the poll will come up. You just choose which team you want. After you have chosen a team the results of the poll will be shown. You can't vote more than once for each game.

If you want to vote on all games, if you start with the first game listed you can just hit the previous topic button to vote on each game without having to go back to the main menu. This process can also be used to check the current vote numbers (you don't have to wait until the polls close.)

After considering a few alternatives I have decided to use my brother to break any ties. He is a big women's basketball fan but has rarely come on this site.

That is the game that caused me to think about the potential for a tie. Smile

Good solution!

Arkansas had taken a lead after I posted this yesterday but it's tied again this morning.

Marquette played Rice one year ago today - still quite bummed I don't get to see them play this year Sad.

How did they do in that game? Was it in the tourney?

Yeah it was a first round NCAA Tournament game. Marquette trailed most of the game and then made a quite improbable comeback to force overtime and win the game. They played much better against Texas A&M in the 2nd round but fell short of becoming the first MU team to make the Sweet 16 in a close loss.

The first round is now over. There were a few close games, including 1 tie. Iowa St and Virginia Tech were tied, but the Cyclones were able to prevail in overtime.

The second round will be posted within 2 hours

The second round is now posted. Voting is open until Tuesday evening.

A few notes from the voting in the first round. Six teams were voted unanimously, Baylor, Oregon, North Carolina St, Stanford, Arizona and Oregon St. All four 9 seeds won in the first round (including Iowa St who won a tiebreaker.) The only other lower seed to win was Marquette. As 11 seeds James Madison (vs Ohio St) and Tennessee (vs Princeton) were each selected 8 times. And in what can only be considered an anti-UConn vote, the Huskies only advanced 12-6.

Go Marquette Smile! I'd like to think they would have won - will never know of course.

Went out and voted for 2nd round games - thanks for doing this.

The second round is now over. There were 3 upsets (by seed) and 2 other very close games.

Northwestern fell to Princeton 12-10, the only 3rd seed to lose.

UCLA squeaked by South Dakota 12-10

Mississippi St and Arizona, the other 3 seeds, won easily.

In the 4 vs 5 games,

Indiana upset Gonzaga 13-9

Texas A&M upset DePaul 12-9

Iowa came from behind to edge Florida St. 12-11

Among the 4 seeds only Oregon St won easily.

The third round will be posted by tomorrow morning.
