Jenny Baranczyk returns to the court she played on as 10 seed Drake takes on 7 seed Missouri. Close one so far with Missouri leading 35-33 with 7:45 to go in the third quarter.

Go Drake!!!

I'm waiting for the day that someone just lays Cunningham out.

Pingeton looked like a crazy lady there.

Nice run by Drake. They lead 54-48 with 1:24 to go in the third quarter.

I have things I really need to do but basketball has sucked me in Smile

Luckily I was able to get my stuff done before the games started. Didn't have much to do, so I was lucky there.

They could use that 1 foot shot that Cunningham missed to start overtime. She may have over-thought it.

I don’t think Cunningham has the quickness to do well in the WNBA.

Smith was in the lane a long time there, but 3 seconds gets missed a lot.

That was a huge bail out foul. Roundtree is not a threat on a rushed deep three.

She has the smarts, heart, and versatility to do very well.

Who is an example that type of WNBA wing player - not quick - but does well with smarts, heart and versatility?

I have never heard Maya Moore described as lacking quickness.

Katie Douglas.

Katie Smith.

Quickness isn’t mutually exclusive with WNBA success. Was Whalen fast? I actually agree with Shades, as I don’t find Maya very fast either. It’s funny to me how quickness is used to critique certain players, let Ionescu (who isn’t very quick either) seemingly has her lack of athleticism ignored.

I am not sure there has ever been a draft with so many possible 1st/high 2nd round picks that are excellent college players with the major issue of athleticism discussed in this article. Even the top player, Sabrina (plenty of outstanding traits), does have questions about footspeed, quickness, and defensive ability; of course Lindsay Whalen had similar issues her entire career, and is on the way to the Hall of Fame. Heck, they used to question Larry Bird's athleticism.

I think that Cunningham is slower than Katie Douglas, Katie Smith and Ionescu. But she is strong and would be a three, not a 1 or 2.

When Lindsay Harding and Duke played Whalen in the NCAA tournament and lost, Harding said she had never played against anyone that fast (referring to Whalen). But may have just been with regard to full-court running, not "first three steps" stuff.

Why Maya Moore would ever be in a conversation regarding Sophie Cunningham is beyond me as well.

Hatefulness is not a becoming trait. I watched this game and I didn't see one time Sophie did anything to deserve that. But....hate away! Rolling Eyes

Absolutely. And she may play the 3 at the next level, but she has the ability to play the 2, 3, or 4 with skill, if needed.

I'd compare her to Alysha Clark....a solid player with nice longevity, coming from a mid-major. Not too certain Sophie will break into any team's rotation too quickly, but she's got some great talent.

Re: The Game....Kudos to both teams. Drake played magnificently--I haven't followed them, but given how MO-State blew 'em away in the conference tourney, I didn't expect this kind of a contest. (Mizzou did beat MO-St in a an OOC game, but it was close)

Kudos to Mizzou....on to Iowa! Cool

It isn't anything even close to hate. I've defended Cunningham, probably more than anyone here.

I just think that her style of play would frustrate the hell out of some players and can totally see where someone could lose composure and set a really hard pick or just run through one that she sets.

So, just keep assuming!

Given the general *hate* she seems to generate here, you CAN understand how it's easily construed as 'hoping' someone just lays her out.
