If UCLA shoots 5-for-20 in the 4th quarter (like it did in the 3rd), it's not gonna win this game. But if UCLA shoots better, it'll probably win! Hitting shots is a more successful strategy than not-hitting shots!

The foul trouble and having only seven players is affecting how they're playing. They're not playing confident. Dean and Onyewere are not in foul trouble and need to be more aggressive.

Yes, with UCLA shooting poorly through the 3Q and part of the 4Q, the Bruins were letting it impact their focus on the defensive end, like Coach Close said. And yes, the foul trouble and the absence of Smith have also negatively impacted UCLA's standard rhythm. And on top of all of that, Tennessee's bigs were something that UCLA had very little answer for.

Tennessee like the tide . . . big flow followed by big ebb.

well, we all knew this wouldn't be the typical 6-11 matchup.

Thank you UCLA for taking care of business.
And even if Tennessee won, I still wouldn't think they had done enough this year to get an at large bid.

The refs just *gave* the game to UCLA.

Tennessee had it and choked it away.

Tennessee is really poorly coached. Warlick clearly didn’t have a Plan B in case the out of bounds review didn’t go their way. Instead of fouling a UCLA player being down 8, the Tennessee players were confused on what they were supposed to do so the UCLA player went coast-to-coast for an insurmountable 10 pt lead at that point.

Holly doesn't know how to lose, either.

Come on Tennessee, are you all that stupid or just don't give a shit? It's not the players, it's the coach. It's the coach!

Fire Warlick now! She should have been discharged years ago.

As a Bruin fan, I would've preferred to have seen Quinnipiac today.

Tenn's transition defense was horrible down the stretch.

Well, that was a classic end-of-game collapse by Tenn.

Their lack of discipline and basketball IQ shone through in the last 4 minutes.

UCLA was fortunate.

Happy for my Bruins advancing against an incredibly-talented Lady Vols team.

Props to Tennessee for coming back from an early 17-point deficit, when it would've been very easy for them to fold up the tents.

I personally feel bad for all of the guff that Holly takes, but I understand that it comes with the paycheck, and with attempting to follow a legend. Believe me, as UCLA basketball fan, there's little that I know more-intimately than the curse of the coach(es) who attempt to follow a legend.

UCLA was mentally tougher in this case in the end despite being in foul trouble.

Tennessee, with this much talent, should easily be a top-10 team, but god knows what is going on with their heads and coaching.

Agreed. This should've been no less than a second round 4/5 matchup. Proud of these Bruins. Down to seven players, worst foul trouble all season and still pull it out. I think they can play a lot better. They will need to against Maryland which should be a lot more disciplined than Tennessee.

what was the story with UCLA's bench. Did they just not have more available players?

Dean was terrible in the 2nd half. She showed no leadership qualities at all. All Dean did was dribble and pass the ball around the perimeter. She was hesitant to shoot and refused to drive/attack on offense...The UCLA coach was also bad in the 2nd half. She did nothing to counter Tennessee's zone defense.

Except for two players they're freshmen and sophomores. They were lucky to get that far. They'll improve.

A case of do as I say. You know I've read you saying that sort of thing many times Tenn threads but you yourself have no compunction barging into a UConn thread with some snotty trollish comment. Do you recognize the hypocrisy?

Wish I had $5 for every time I read that about Tenn in the last 10 years.

Tenn has a bunch of players who don't put out the effort consistently during games, and who need to get in the gym and put up shots.

For the record, I have mostly stayed out of UConn threads in recent times, and the most "trollish" thing I have said is to remind y'all that UConn, too, will fade, as all dynasties do...although I did ask if it was true that Geno had no recruits for next year because I had heard that somewhere, not because I was being nasty. Perhaps you have trouble with questions like that because you are sensitive about such things. Oh yes, I did say that maybe if Geno played his bench more in blowouts they wouldn't be so bench-y, meaning they wouldn't play so much like a bench. You took that as a trollish comment? I guess you really are sensitive!

I don't really give a flying Wallenda about UConn any more and you may take that to the bank.
