Two guys on the BIG 10 channel were just talking about leaving starters playing in blowouts. I was only half listening until I realized what they were talking about but it appears that they are concerned with tournament seeding. Apparently, the average margin of victory or "the net" as one of them put it, is one of the factors in seeding, so both the coach in the lead and the coach losing have motivation to keep starters in for the whole game.

Those coaches will change their minds about the relative importance of "the net" when one of their starters tears an ACL when the score is 65-32 with 30 seconds left in the game.

Was this for a men's game? The NET isn't being used for women (yet). It seems like of a system that needs tweaks. A possession up 65-32 is as important as a possession up 65-64 for efficiency ratings which is why starters are playing more.

Today South Dakota led Omaha 50-6 at the half. Coach Dawn Plitzuweit (it is pronounced just the way it is spelled) played her starters only 28 minutes total in the second half, and no starter played more than 23 minutes in the game. None of the starters played in the fourth quarter.
