Providence won at Creighton today 77-63. That result surprises me and I'm surprised at Providence's 5-4 mark in the BE - that's good enough for 4th place right now.

Just tuned into the St. Joe's at Dayton game on ESPNU and wow is this a low scoring game. Dayton leads 43-40 with 3:12 to go in the game.

Still wondering why ESPN thinks it's a good idea to show UConn blowouts on the main channel.

Wow. Two bad teams in Wake Forest at UVA, but wow, does it ever work to try and make a big splash by hiring an unqualified, inexperienced head coach who happens to have a big name from her days as a player?
It's looking like the Tina Thompson experiment could be a disaster, and given UVA's history with coaches and money in many sports, they're probably stuck with her for for a long time.
Although Wake is trying hard to blow a 17 point lead which has shrunk to 7 as the 4th Q begins. But UVA hasn't looked well coached all year. And they have players who are better than they're playing.

Root, root, root for the home team. . , ,
For the same reason they thought it was a good idea to give private studio tours only to UConn recruits.

Nope, Wake tried hard to give it away, but UVA responded with a whopping 11 pt quarter and lost by 10, 52-42.
42 pts total against Wake Forest. WF with a 15 rebound advantage for the game.
Great job UVA.

Wisconsin defeats Nebraska 70-69 on a buzzer-beating 3-point basket._________________ If you cannot inspire yourself to read a book about women's basketball, or any book about women's sports, you cannot inspire any young girl or boy to write a book about them. http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/Richardstrek

Is there any concern or interest at St John's that they're in 9th place with a losing record?
They have a good history. It's a shame where they have fallen.
Georgetown is in basically the same boat and I think the answer in DC is "no". By all appearances they're just going through the motions. Just fielding a team, not really trying to be good. And no one even seems to notice, much less care.
BTW, today SJU lost to Villanova and Georgetown lost to Seton Hall. Neither game was particularly close. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........

Nice to see former Bobcat Kelly Karlis hit a corner three to win it. She learned that shot at Ohio, y'know.

UCLA pulls it out 98-93.
That was a doozy. UCLA was behind most of the second half then came back. Got ahead in the first two overtimes but some mistakes allowed Arizona to come back. Finally, some key stops and rebounding allowed UCLA to pull away. This was a sloppy game, referees were a little too whistle happy.
Aarion McDonald had 35 pts. Michaela Onyewere had 28. Lajahna Drummer had 17 rebounds.

UCLA prevails in 3 OTs. 98-93 they made FTs when they needed to. I think Arizona went to McDonald one time too many.

But she kept them in it. There were some crazy shots she made. She's a freight train when driving to the basket.
Once Cate Reese finds some consistency, this team will be something to watch.

I thought that about the Stanford game too. Maybe the P12 is going to start calling a lot of touch fouls, which will hurt us when we go to play other leagues that allow physicality.

There would need to be a few more games like this for me to worry. Besides, it's probably good teams learn how to make in-game adjustments as refs will never call a game the same way. Pac-12 used to be softer but not anymore. There were far fewer fouls in the overtime. It was just that several players had gotten 3 and four by that time.

Kentucky loses at A&M by 2: 71-73. Is Kentucky not as good as their ranking? Or is A&M better than theirs? I mean A&M did lose to Lamar in preseason!! (even if it was without Carter) I watched part of it today and mostly it looked like Kentucky had no inside game, which obviously is a problem against big teams. They look pretty much like a three player team. Of course A&M usually looks like a one player team, but today she got some help.

JMU welcomed Elon to the Convo Center and proceeded to treat them VERY rudely indeed. The final was 82-30, with everyone on the JMU bench getting into the action, although not everyone scored. Kamiah Smalls led the Dukes with 26 points in just 28 minutes of action. Jackie Benitez came off the bench to add 16. Kayla Cooper-Williams had a double-double with 10 points and *16* rebounds (yes, you read that right) plus a couple of blocks.
Elon's problem is that they have 2 juniors, one of whom IIRC came off the bench last year and still does, the rest being sophomores and (mostly) freshmen. They're good enough individually but aren't playing well together yet. As The Man said, they're good enough to get out of their own way, which makes them easier to play because we weren't tripping over them every two seconds, but they weren't executing well. They'll be much better in a couple of years..

Yes I do too. I've been thinking about her with Michigan games I've been watching and especially when Marquette hosted Michigan and St. John's this season.
