Bernie Sanders shouldn't be counted out. Chicago rally 3/3/2019 (although he had the bigger crowds in 2016 but didn't get the most votes):

'I'm not running': Hillary Clinton rules out 2020 bid for first time on camera in exclusive interview with News 12

Quote:
Clinton pledged to take an active role in 2020 as the field of Democratic candidates continues to expand. She's already held private meetings with many of the candidates, and she revealed the substance of some of those closed-door discussions.

Yeah but the good options out of the crowded field are almost nil.

Sen. Sherrod Brown, Democrat from Ohio, won’t run for president

Quote:
Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio announced Thursday that he will not seek the presidency, a decision he said came after a tour of early-primary states left him more confident that his party was focusing more on labor and workers than it had in 2016.

I'm surprised. I think he would have had a good shot at it.

Good to hear- keeps that Senate seat safe from the russian-allied party.

Republicans already are trying to saddle vulnerable Democrats with Ocasio-Cortez's views.

“Every candidate is going to be associated with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,” Michael McAdams a spokesman for the House Republicans’ campaign arm said.

Recognizing the strategy, one aide to a new member who flipped a Republican seat, said if the aide’s boss was placed next to Ocasio-Cortez at a news conference, the aide would try to move the lawmaker to avoid photographs of the two together. The aide was concerned a photo could be used by a Republican opponent during a re-election campaign.

I think it’s pretty obvious that AOC will endorse Bernie, if anybody. They both identify as Democratic Socialist. She pretty much adopted his views and helped make them more popular. AOC will only help Bernie. Who don’t the republicans use as a negative?

You represented the republican fear-mongering viewpoint and left out the best part.

Quote:
Some veteran Democratic strategists say endangered lawmakers shouldn’t be so worried. Ocasio-Cortez is getting people excited about Democratic ideas, even though proposals will ultimately vary on details. Plus, they say, all of the Democrats who represent red and purple districts did a good job of sidestepping another bogeywoman during their last election.

Republicans pounded Democrats with ads about ties to Pelosi, whom they accused of being a “San Francisco liberal." Yet, Democrats were still able to flip the House.

The GOP strategy "is not a strategy that worked in 2018. I don’t believe it is a strategy that will work going forward,” said Brad Woodhouse, a Democratic strategist and former spokesman for the Democratic National Committee.

“And really, to take Republican criticism and let it live by lending it credence, doesn’t do anybody in the party any good,” Woodhouse said.

Pete Buttigieg wants to end the Electoral College, add more seats to the Supreme Court, and become America's youngest president (Business Insider)

Quote:
His first priority as president, he said, would be passing a set of "democratic reforms," including ending gerrymandering and expanding political representation for Puerto Rico and Washington, DC. Most ambitiously, he supports a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Electoral College.

And he's received attention for his proposal to expand the Supreme Court to 15 justices from nine, a concept gaining traction on the left. The plan would allow Republicans and Democrats to each appoint five justices, who would unanimously agree on the remaining five appointees.

Why would we need to add justices to do his plan? Allow each party three, and they can agree on the other three.

I am a big fan of adding justices. Right now, each individual justice is much too powerful - that's why the fights over them are so big. Adding more makes each individual justice less powerful AND makes each individual confirmation less substantial. It means that we could expect a much more regular flow into and out of the court, so that a retirement (or death) isn't like a president winning the lottery.

I'd also like to see term limits imposed on the judges. I think a 15 year term is more than sufficient. I hate this crap of waiting to see which party is in power before deciding to retire, etc. 15 judges, not to exceed 15 years each. Cool

Term limits require a Constitutional amendment (probably, though there is a theory that the term limit could apply just to Supreme Court and they then go back a lower federal court). Changing the number of justices can be done by Congress.

I still want Beto to lose the nomination and become the nominees choice for VP.
