It appears to be a labeling issue:
Politics of Venezuela:
Quote:

Venezuela has a dominant-party system, dominated by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela amidst other parties listed in the following section. The governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela, PSUV) was created in 2007, uniting a number of smaller parties supporting Hugo Chávez's Bolivarian Revolution with Chávez's Fifth Republic Movement.PSUV and its forerunners have held the Presidency and National Assembly since 1998. The Democratic Unity Roundtable (Mesa de la Unidad Democrática, MUD), created in 2008, unites much of the opposition (A New Era (UNT), Project Venezuela, Justice First, Movement for Socialism (Venezuela) and others). Hugo Chávez, the central figure of the Venezuelan political landscape since his election to the Presidency in 1998 as a political outsider, died in office in early 2013, and was succeeded by Nicolás Maduro (initially as interim President, before narrowly winning the Venezuelan presidential election, 2013). Venezuela has a presidential government. The Economist Intelligence Unit has rated Venezuela as "authoritarian" in 2017.

But they have a stock market, so they aren't practicing socialism - by my, and Wikipedia's, definition.

Precisely the point I was trying to make: Labels are misleading, and "socialism" is very prone to that.

There’s a video that effectively paints Biden as a creeper. I’m sure it’ll be used against him even though Trump is probably much worst. Can we just trend away from having a creeper in the office?

The form of political goverment doesn't determine whether a country is economically communist, socialist, capitalist, or some blend. Indeed, I'd say most countries are blends.

Countries like Scandinavia are called socialist even though the government may not own all the means of production. Typically the government may own some of the means of production, heavily regulate others, have high taxation, and massive wealth distribution to government-favored beneficiaries. That's more than enough to be called "socialist" in many people's books. The U.S. has long been partially socialist under such a definition.

Right. Yet, The Fakiest of the Fake News continues to 'brand' Venezuela as "socialist" to further demonize that simple term for the simplest-minded folks, who allow themselves to be scared $hitless at its mention.

It's, imo, the sleaziest political maneuver of the decade: Donald created this branding....Label your enemy as anything you DON'T want to have focused on you. Donald's historically crooked? "Crooked Hillary" is his mantra. Donald compulsively lies? "Lyin' Ted Cruise" is his branding tool.

So exactly why can't corporations that generate wealth be cultivated via capitalism AND also be held accountable, via appropriate, proportionate taxation to contribute BACK to the people on whose backs their wealth was made (work force, consumers, etc.)

Elizabeth Warren's view of that is called socialistic by some, but she calls bullshit on that: The Wealthy Magnates that created their corporate wealth, DID SO BEING UTTERLY DEPENDANT upon the workforce to manufacture, produce, serve, etc.; they rely upon infrastructure like tax-funded highways to move their goods, etc., but they only get their taxes reduced? Accountability and paying one's (truly!) fair share is not really socialistic.

Black students to 2020 Dems: We want to see policies, not pandering

Quote:
Young black voters who spoke to USA TODAY said they want candidates to address issues such as increasing the minimum wage, overhauling the criminal justice system, and pushing for more money to help struggling HBCUs expand research projects and fix crumbling buildings.

Quote:
Kennedy called the Democratic Party “black people’s default” and said he “absolutely” feels like the party has taken African American voters for granted.

“Black issues often get pushed to the wayside’’ or barely discussed, said Kennedy, 21, a Democrat from Baltimore.

Quote:

Hill said Democrats have to tailor their messages to attract young black voters, many of whom have been leading protests against the deaths of their peers in police custody and heading groups such as Black Lives Matter.

“They cannot run from these issues," Hill said of candidates.

For example, Hill said some Democratic presidential candidates have sent up "trial balloons,'' talking about issues such as reparations in part because they hope it resonates with younger black voters.

Biden might look like a frontrunner, but I predict he will never poll as high a the day he officially declares his candidacy. He has been a disaster both times he has run before - those were in times more set up for a candidate like him. Right now, he is benefiting from Obama's afterglow and the bizarre idea that he would have beaten Trump.

Biden the candidate is much better in theory than in practice.

Agree and absolutely perfect analysis of this. We've seen this before too with candidates who seem like the magic boy until they get in the race and then once that happens it just doesn't have quite the same look or feel. I'm going to leave it at that.

Okay I can't. There are so many things going on there with Joe Biden. But G nailed what is for me also the absolute killer and that is the creeper factor. And no, I'm sorry, Trump's talking pussy and hiring and paying off prostitutes and anything and everything else he's ever done... it's all kind of normal and expected shit from a guy with no sexual morals and a billion dollars. I'm not forgiving it and I'm not saying these are acceptable characteristics we would want in a president.

But I'm sorry, it's all an absolute nothing compared to witnessing with our own eyes, over and over and over again, the Vice President of the United States of America leaning in, sniffing, whispering in the ears for lonnnggg moments, smooching, clutching, etc. of powerless women and, god help us all, even young girls who are actually children. Fuck this guy. Just fuck him. That's one of the more disgusting propensities on the part of a powerful man I've had the displeasure of seeing with my own eyes in this modern era. I would expect it from an LBJ or someone prior to that era and on a lower level. If you pulled up old film of a VP from the 1940s doing that as many times as we have Biden doing it it would be a trending topic on Twitter. It just pisses me off. I want to spit on a man who does that.

But... other than that... I think he's criminally out of date. A dinosaur of the past who is a product of a Washington that has failed in the last half-century to even begin to fix this country's many deep problems. Biden has always been there. I actually can't believe this guy is honestly going to run. I hope his poll numbers represent a Fred Thompson welcome to the race. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

If She The People is any indication of voter preferences, the race is really between Warren and Harris - despite all the talk about Sanders, Biden, Pete, etc..

You can't win the Democratic primary without the support of women of color. Period.

Biden entry makes 20 Democrats in 2020: The largest presidential field in history

Quote:
For the 2020 Democratic presidential nod, 20 people can be listed as viable contenders, a Washington Examiner analysis found. That included not only fundraising and poll results, but whether television networks have devoted airtime for coverage.

Biden crushes it in first-day fundraising: $6.3 million

Quote:
His surprising total — Biden has not been a candidate on his own since 2008 — far exceeded expectations set by those who suggested the establishment-oriented politician couldn’t compete in the new world of Democratic campaigns fueled by small-dollar donors.

Why call someone 28 years later and say I'm sorry what happened to you but I didn't think I did anything to you? You should've never picked up the phone.

Anita Hill unsatisfied with Biden pre-announcement phonecall after 28 years; calls it nonapology-NYT

Quote:
In a lengthy telephone interview on Wednesday, she declined to characterize Mr. Biden’s words to her as an apology and said she was not convinced that he has taken full responsibility for his conduct at the hearings — or for the harm he caused other victims of sexual harassment and gender violence.

She said she views Mr. Biden as having “set the stage” for last year’s confirmation of Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, who, like Justice Thomas, was elevated to the court despite accusations against him that he had acted inappropriately toward women. And, she added, she was troubled by the recent accounts of women who say Mr. Biden touched them in ways that made them feel uncomfortable.

Quote:
One of those [three, Biden-blocked] potential witnesses, Sukari Hardnett, a lawyer in Silver Spring, Md., said in an interview that she decided to come forward while watching the hearing when she “saw what they were doing to Anita Hill and how they were literally trying to trash her.” Ms. Hardnett wrote a letter detailing her own experiences and submitted it to the committee through the dean of her law school, expecting to be called to testify. But she said she was not.
