These are presidential primary polls. Did you find the 2016 presidential primary polls inaccurate?

Do male candidates get more coverage than women? It’s complicated.

TV networks spent more time on Beto O’Rourke than Elizabeth Warren. The question is why.
A Vanity Fair cover. Reporters mobbing campaign stops. Multiple references to “stardom.”
That’s the reception that greeted Beto O’Rourke in the days leading up to and following the announcement of his campaign for the presidency. All this happened despite the fact that O’Rourke is a former member of Congress without a detailed platform, whose main claim to fame is losing a long-shot Senate race. |

Mayor Pete on Christianity.
Quote: |
Buttigieg criticized right-wing Christians for “saying so much about what Christ said so little about, and so little about what he said so much about.”
“Saying so much about what Christ said so little about” applies to the religious right’s treatment of abortion as a litmus test for Christian faith, when in fact Jesus never mentioned the issue.
As to the religious right saying “so little about what (Jesus) said so much about,” Buttigieg made this observation: “When I think about where most of Scripture points me, it is toward defending the poor, and the immigrant, and the stranger, and the prisoner, and the outcast, and those who are left behind by the way society works. And what we have now is this exaltation of wealth and power, almost for its own sake, that in my reading of Scripture couldn't be more contrary to the message of Christianity. |
Quote: |
Because most journalists are secular, they can be gullible in looking to the religious right as arbiters of biblical interpretation, especially as it relates to hot-button cultural and political issues. Because of this, many Americans aren’t even aware of the rich tradition of progressive Christianity. |
Quote: |
There are so many other examples of how members of the religious right, who claim allegiance to a literal interpretation of the Bible, ignore the literal words that Jesus spoke. Hypocrisy, something Jesus railed against, has become perhaps the most prominent feature of the religious right in the Trump era. |
I was going to stop, then I came to this.
Quote: |
Does Buttigieg think Trump is a Christian? “I'm reluctant to comment on another person's faith, but I would say it is hard to look at this president's actions and believe that they're the actions of somebody who believes in God,” he said. “I just don't understand how you can be as worshipful of your own self as he is and be prepared to humble yourself before God. I've never seen him humble himself before anyone. And the exaltation of yourself, especially a self that's about wealth and power, could not be more at odds with at least my understanding of the teachings of the Christian faith.” |

Boy, does he have THAT nailed!
NOTHING in the political realm is more preposterous than "Christians" who support Trump. No one--and I mean NO ONE--that has genuine Christian values can justifiably align their beliefs with Trump.
There are several versions of this story (not a parable, but an alleged incident) in scriptures.
Quote: |
The other of the rich men said to him "Master, what good thing shall I do and live?" He said to him "Man, perform the law and the prophets." He answered him "I have performed them." He said to him "Go, sell all that thou hast and divide it to the poor, and come, follow me." But the rich man began to scratch his head, and it pleased him not. And the Lord said to him "How can you say 'I have performed the law and the prophets'? seeing that it is written in the law 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself,' and look, many of your brothers, sons of Abraham, are clad with dung, dying for hunger, and your house is full of much goods, and there goes out therefrom nought at all unto them." And he turned and said to Simon his disciple, sitting by him, "Simon, son of John, it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle than a rich man into the kingdom of the heavens." |
(Yes, Jesus was a Socialist )
And THIS doesn't even begin to address the other con-Trump-dictions:
"Love Your Neighbor as Yourself" vs. "They're all rapists and criminals"
"Turn the other cheek" vs. "Knock the crap out of 'em"
"Don't grab 'em by the pussy" vs. "Grab 'em by the pussy".....

We must create a safer environment for our children. I plan to reform gun control for the safety of our country. |

I AM MAKING MY ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY...
I hereby announce my candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination, and I'm announcing it right here on Area 51! I vow to take the promises of other Democratic candidates one step further:
- I believe that not only does every American (and non-American) deserve a car to be able to get to work (or not get to work depending on their lifestyle choices), they should have something nice, like a Ferrari or high-end Tesla!
- Our country has been divided for a long time. The first thing we have to do is unify. I will do that by demonizing anyone who opposes our points of view and by forcing them to adopt our vision for America!
- I will repeal the Second Amendment and immediately and retroactively criminalize all citizens who have had owned firearms within the last 50 years, regardless of any carry permits or proper documentation. Alternatively, we will require all citizens to hand in their guns. Those who do not comply will have their firearms taken by the authorities at gunpoint.
- We will repeal the Electoral College and will instate a mob rule style of democracy where only those in population centers who vote Democrat will have any influence whatsoever in future elections. Once we maintain a large enough majority, we will eliminate the election process altogether.
- I support the right to choose and will legalize "abortions" up to 10 years of age.
- I will stop the construction of the border wall and will legalize citizenship for ALL walks of life including those who have entered the country illegally, as well as those who have never entered the country at all!
- I will enact the Green New Deal by executive order and will halt the sales of all vehicles so that we can have a green planet for our future. We will cease the use of airports for air travel and repurpose them for high-speed rail. This order will replace greenhouse gases from planes and will create guaranteed jobs for every American for generations to come, as well as generate trillions of dollars in taxable wealth.

Good grief, if it was April 1st I would have thought all those new names were a joke. CNN can only hold special shows with a certain number of candidates. I don't know how others expect to get traction. Maybe the idea is to do what I have heard some candidates accused of: "monetize their donations" - that is, use them for personal purposes in some way.

Some of them have been declared for a while, I've just been slacking on mentioning them.
There are a ton of "candidates" who've filed with the FEC but apparently done nothing else. There are some just using their Facebook page as a campaign site. I'm not bothering with them.

Sen. Cory Booker pushes bill for slavery reparations commission to Senate
Quote: |
A companion version of the HR 40 bill, which was introduced in the House by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) (and first introduced in 1989 by Rep. John Conyers), is now coming to the Senate.
According to an aide from Senator Cory Booker‘s office, he is backing this companion version of the bill to be filed today, which will study the issue and explore reparations proposals for African-American descendants of slavery. This will be the first of its kind to be introduced to the Senate.
“Since slavery in this country, we have had overt policies fueled by white supremacy and racism that have oppressed African-Americans economically for generations,” Booker said in a statement.
“Many of our bedrock domestic policies that have ushered millions of Americans into the middle class have systematically excluded blacks through practices like GI Bill discrimination and redlining. This bill is a way of addressing head-on the persistence of racism, white supremacy, and implicit racial bias in our country. It will bring together the best minds to study the issue and propose solutions that will finally begin to right the economic scales of past harms and make sure we are a country where all dignity and humanity is affirmed.” |

In the words of "The View" co-host Sunny Hostin, "Japanese-Americans got money. The Jewish community got money. Why don't African-Americans deserve money?"
