A few more unbeatens may go down today. Bradley, the worst undefeated team, is being destroyed by Purdue, 52-29, at the half. Virginia Tech is also down at the half, 44-36, to Ohio St.

Today I have moved from UNLV to the South Point to see a few mid majors. The first game is Fairfield vs Illinois-Chicago, followed by Western Illinois-Furman and Akron - UTEP..
In game 1, Fairfield has looked better than their record, leading 21-7 after 1. Casey Foley has 2 3-pointers for the Stags (may be it should be mares, or at least Stagettes).

UIC 32 Fairfield 31 half
The script was flipped in the 2nd quarter as the Flames used a full court press to use their superior athleticism.
On the unbeaten front, Bradley lost, and Virginia Tech came back in the 4th to down Ohio St. Right now South Alabama is down 2 to Florida International

This was a very entertaining but not particularly well played game. In the end the Stags just made a few more plays and escaped with a win.

Oregon took a while to put the Anteaters away but finally got down to business and won 115-69 going away. The best player for UC Irvine was a girl from Medford. Too bad she didn't stay in Oregon.

Western Illinois 43 Furman 33 half
Game 2 in Las Vegas has been another entertaining one. Furman's more aggressive play has not agreed with the referees. I will be very interested in the stats on this game. Western has played much better than a 3-9 team.

Western Illinois 85 Furman 78
Western Illinois tried for much of the second half to find a way to give the game away. But after giving the lead away they played very well the last 2 minutes to secure the win. Hopefully game 3 will be as good as the first 2.

Akron 14 UTEP 10 end of 1 qtr
Akron is the better team, but UTEP has kept it close so far.

Akron 30-29 at the half
The Zips had a 10 point lead but gave it away with very sloppy play late in the quarter.

Akron 64 UTEP 58 Final
Akron played rather poorly but had just enough to get the win. The final score didn't reflect how close the game was.

JMU, probably PO’d from the loss to Wake Forest in the final seconds, took it out on St. John’s at the Convo Center this afternoon, 64-51. The Dukes started fast, pressed hard, and never stopped. The Red Storm never led at any point in the game and seemed to have real trouble with not only JMU’s pressure D, but the pace of the game. They looked gassed before the end of the 3Q...and with the departure of Kelly Koshuta the Dukes didn’t have any more players on the bench than they did.

Due to transfers(losing 4 players), Vanderbilt started with only 9 players this season. Bree Horrocks(originally out for the season) was activated for their game on Tuesday. Jackie Welch, their walk-on soccer player, dressed for her first game on Tuesday as well and played. Currently out with injuries are Chelsie Hall, Jordyn Cambridge(ACL), Brinae Alexander(right knee), Isabella Paldrmic(ACL), Autumn Newby(right leg). That'll gave them 6 if Horrocks is able to play on Thursday. |
Vanderbilt is up to 8 players now. Chelsea Hall & Jordyn Cambridge both played in their two loses against Miami(Fl) & Creighton. Jackie Welch played in both games as well.
