Since I haven't seen many things posted about the big game tomorrow, I thought I'd throw out some stats, trivia, etc. that I came across (through both reading and researching).

UConn leads the series overall 36-12 (11-4 at ND). However, over the last 16 games, it's 8-8, with a 5-5 regular season record and a 3-3 NCAA Tournament record.

With 12 wins over Auriemma, McGraw has the most wins of any coach against him. Harry Parretta is next with 11 (contrary to what the announcers said during ND-Iowa. They said he had 12. When I went to double check in the UConn media guide, I noticed it listed 17 wins by Villanova, 6 before Auriemma was hired and 10 after Auriemma became head coach, which didn't equal 17. It turns out that when they decided to reformat the info from last year's style to this year's, they switched the 01/27/93 50-44 Villanova win to a 50-44 UConn win. Oops! Wink ).

With 36 wins over McGraw, Auriemma has the most wins of any coach against her. The next most is by Pat Summitt (20).

There have been 6 games in the series that were #1 vs #2 games, with UConn having a 5-1 advantage (ND's lone #1 vs #2 win was the 2001 NCAA Semifinals). Last year ND was #5/6 when they beat UConn and most of the Diggins era games were #2 vs #3 and #3 vs #4.

The announcers for ND-Iowa messed up another stat (just a little). They said that in the last 100 ND home games, the only 2 losses were to UConn. It's actually the last 99 home games (100 home games back was a loss to Baylor (73-61 Dec 5, 2012)). Still 97-2 is rather impressive and ND did have one home win against UConn in that span.

This is the first true road game for UConn this year. All previous games were either in Connecticut or on a neutral court (Paradise Jam).

I have seen some handwringing from the UConn faithful. But while reading about this game I noticed that yet another #1 high school recruit did well. This is the roster that UConn fans fret over:

Name - Hoopgurls High School rank - overall (their position)
Katie Lou Samuelson #1 (#1) - 2013 USA Basketball U16, 2013 USAB 3x3 U18, USA Basketball 2014 U17,
Christyn Williams #1 (#1) - 2016 USAB U17, 2017 USAB U19, 2017 USAB U18 3x3
Megan Walker #1 (#1) - 2016 USAB U18, 2016 USAB 3x3 , 2017 USAB U19

Crystal Dangerfield #3 (#1) - 2013 USAB U16 team, 2015 USAB U19 team, 2016 USAB U18 team (withdrew after injury) 2017 USAB U19 team

Olivia Nelson-Ododa #5 (#1) - 2018 USAB U18 team, 2016 USAB U17 team

Napheesa Collier #6 (#3) - 2014 USAB U18 team, 2014 USAB Youth Olympic Games Team 3x3 team

Mikayla Coombs #13 (#2) - 2016 USAB U17 trials, 2017 USAB U19 trials
Lexi Gordan #29 (#5)
Batouly Camara #53 (#9)
Kyla Irwin -- (#16)
Molly Bent -- (#22)

There couldn't be any team with as many #1's, and when you have three #1s and #3, #5, #6, that would be tough to beat. A team with a #1, #2, #2, #2, #2, #3 - the best possible combination (ignoring redshirts) would average #2 while UConn averages #2.83 in the top 6.

Maybe we can skip the season and award the NC to the team with the highest player rank. Save a lot of time.

Let's clarify what the point is again. UConn has an extremely high rated roster. Likely the highest rated in the nation and probably as high as they or any other team has ever had. Any handwringing by UConn fans over personnel is extremely "misplaced". But it is true as you imply, with a basketball God at the controls and the best roster in the nation, if UConn doesn't win it all, they have failed miserably. Having one of, if not the highest rated roster in history is both a blessing and a curse.

You aint been listening to all the folks that said ND has the best by far and should be automatic NC champions, just saying....

But I see the excuses and whining for ND has already started in the articles just like last year, begging for the refs not to call fouls on them hint hint Laughing Laughing

Wasn't it Art who pointed out that all 5 Notre Dame starters were on the early Wooden list? I don't see how the high school rating of players is very predictive. Tenn has had several highly rated freshmen classes over the last decade and hasn't made even one final four with all those elite high school players. Look at UCLA.

After all the comments since last April about how 2018/2019 will be a down year for CT I'd say it's a little confusing to read now that they actually have the best roster (by far).

You seem to ride both sides of the ND fense to the extreme.

4.x classes play in the tournament to make the final four. You need to win 4.x years of recruiting, not one, in order to have high chances of making it there.

They just beat the #1 team by 18 at their arena, so it appears that down year talk was misplaced. Although, with a #1 and #5 coming in to join #1,#1,#3, #6 (all of who are USA Basketball players), it shouldn't be a down year, even if they lost 2 starters and a bench player to the WNBA. UConn has 5 players who were rated the best at their position in high school and add to that with a #2, #3 and #5 position-rating with the next 3 lower rated players.
