This game features many things:

- The great Virginia backcourt of Dawn Staley (NPOY), Tammi Reiss and Tonya Cardoza

- The actual Twins Tower front court of 6-5 Heather and Heidi Burge

- UConn's first superstar and first team AA, Kerry Bascomb, who could float all over the court as both a post poet and arc angel, much like the later and taller Breanna Stewart, but who was crippled with fouls this entire game

- UConn's Laura Lishness, three-point ace Wendy Davis, and longtime UConn home TV announcer Megyn Pattyson (Culmo)

- A pencil thin Geno Auriemma

- Flower dressed and brunette coaches Debbie Ryan and Chris Dailey

- A young June Courteau as one of the two refs

- Tennis star and tennis and Olympics commentator Mary Carillo as the sideline reporter

- The last all white team in the FF (?)

Thanks for that link. First time I've seen this game.

Still not to halftime, but already a few things have made an impression:

The announcing is light years better than anything today. No hysterics, cliches, witticisms. Substitutions are noted more readily.

The game is played better. The players aren't the caliber of today, but they play the game better imo. Much less dribbling.

Ah, the days when not even the game clock, never mind the shot clock, period, team fouls and times out were superimposed on the screen. How did we manage?!

Pattyson sucked. She's the exception to the above claim. Dribbles into traps, makes terrible passes. She's a better announcer than she was a player, if this game is typical.

Pattyson makes a couple of nice baskets in the second half. In limited minutes, Bascomb ends up with a quiet 14/14 double double in a box score I found. UConn could have won if she hadn't been limited by fouls. Virginia went on to lose the NC to Tennessee in OT.

Oh my The Burgess Twins. My first memories of wimin's basketball! They frightened this young gal.

Geno took 5 white slugs with early 90's mullets to the Final 4! Nice!

Game was played in front of like 7,000 fans in a college gym. Oh how the times have changed!

LMAO at the early fouls on Kerry Bascomb. The southern strategy in effect.


Did Pattyson (Culmo) let out a WOAH HO HO when Geno the jokester wouldn't let Tonya Cordoza back on the court?
