Australian basketball great Lauren Jackson is set to announce her retirement from the sport on Thursday, ending her hopes of making it to a fifth Olympic Games and finishing her career with a gold medal. |

Such a shame. I've always wondered what her career stats would be had she always been healthy. Might she have passed Thompson for all time leading scorer? likely.

maybe the Storm can retire her jersey at the final game of this season & invite her back for a final send off? I think she's earned it & the Storm fans deserve to be able to say goodbye to LJ.

I sure miss watching her play, one of the absolute best in the world! I hope she will come to Seattle to let us give her a proper goodbye.

Thank you LJ for everything that you have done for not only the Storm but the whole sport of basketball. IMO you are the greatest player of all time and you have been a absolute joy to watch.
I will miss your competitiveness and the great chemistry that had with Birdy on and off the court. Best 1-2 combo without a doubt!
Enjoy the next step in your life!

A tremendous player. I first saw her as a teen just hanging on the fringes of the Opals' roster, and then as one of the most dominant players in the world.
Of course it's sad that her career is over, and that her prime was cut short by injuries, but for a while there, she was the best in the world -- and it's hard to ask for more than that of any career.

Anyone who pulls out LLL's extensions is a hero in my book. Goodonya Loz.
Blessed to have spent some time on the road with Lauren and Graffy and the Canberra Capitals back in the day.

Knew it was coming, but it's still a shock.
Storm very well may have won another title if she was healthy.
She has made a lot of money playing, but I wonder if she tries coaching now?

This is a bummer. Sad to see a brilliant career end due to injuries. Happy trials, LJ.

I've known this was coming for a couple of years now. You could just see it when she played. It just wasn't the same LJ.
I am going to miss her fire on the court. The way she almost unconsciously created amazing play after amazing play. The way she stretched the court and made bigs guard her out at the 3 point line. The way she threw her all into every play in every game.
She is the first female basketball player that I loved to watch play enough to become a season ticket holder. Like Michael Jordan before her, she ignited my passion for basketball and made it a huge part of my life.
Enjoy an amazing life, LJ. You deserve it. And thanks so much from all the Storm fans. You gave us a number of amazing years to enjoy you up close and in person.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!
Oi! Oi! Oi!

I don't have anything profound to say. Just wanted to thank everybody for the tributes and quotes. Been a nice way to spend the morning watching this.

It's unfortunate Lauren Jackson had to retire because of injuries, especially in her case because she tried so hard and went through so many surgeries and rehabs to get back. I was hoping she would at least get to play for Australia one more time in Rio because I thought she deserved at least that and it seemed like that was her goal and what she was working toward all this time.
She was such a fun player to watch on the court because of her versatility and attitude. I will miss watching her play.
