He owned the Portland Trail Blazers too... He was my favorite sports owner of all time. Sad

It's too bad Paul Allen wouldn't sell the Portland Fire to Portland Trail Blazer legend Clyde Drexler and other investors. Sad

Like Gates, he has donated a tremendous amount of his wealth to charity...a good example for the rest of the 1% rich.

RIP.

While his impact has surely been felt worldwide, he certainly did a lot to shape the Seattle area, culturally and economically. One of my co-workers commented that it's hard to think of someone who has done more for Seattle in that sense.

RIP, Mr. Allen.

You are saying they made a legitimate offer and he turned it down?

So, who are the owners (or former owners) of WNBA teams who have passed away? Besides Paul Allen, the only ones I can think of are that Davidson guy who owned the Detroit Shock and the Utah Jazz/Utah Starzz owner Larry Miller. Any others?

Melvin Simon was co-owner (with his brother Herb) of the Fever. He died during their finals run in 2009.
