90 minutes drive from seattle during rush hour traffic.

brilliant, storm.

Where else could they play? Does UW rent out Hec Edmundsen?

Most of the games next season will be at Hec Ed. I guess some games are scheduled for the arena in Everett instead for those times when Hec Ed isn't available.

I'm glad that most of the games will be at UW. I'm not sure if I will be able to make the games in Everett--I would love it if the Storm could arrange shuttles from the Seattle Center neighborhood or something like that. In any case, I think the Storm FO is doing a great job in this transition thus far. Imagine having to re-seat thousands of season ticket holders into a different arena...and then add 600+ new season ticket holders. It's not ideal playing somewhere else, but the Storm will return to the Key (or whatever it will be named). In the meantime, we just have to make the most of it.

Really, any option for times when Hec Ed isn't available is going to be 90 minutes in rush hour traffic. The only difference is which direction.

very nice article. thanks for posting. Smile

I think its particularly important that she is involving current wnba players into her coaching philosophy. how often have we heard that young women high school & college players don't watch the wnba or follow the players. this is an important part of their basketball education to see successful women doing what they love. this is how they start appreciating the players & league, for what it is (team play, below the hoop), not for what it isn't (men's game). this is how they prepare for what's ahead to see the need for the weight room, wind sprints, to prepare to compete at a much accelerated speed against bigger, more mature players than what they're used to. this is how they develop female player role models for their style influences.

this is how you build for the future, not only for players, but for a strong fanbase for the future.

Despite her limitations, Quinn was kinda useful as a big wing who could also play the point when necessary, and would be ready to play off the bench but not whine if she didn't play for four straight games. Considering the number of games Bird takes off and the careful management she needs these days, they might have to carry a third point guard on the end of the bench. Otherwise you're trusting Loyd or Whitcomb to be able to play there on occasion, neither of which is a great option.

Storm should be able to get a PG in the third round (Robertson? Leonard?).

Loyd is good enough to be second or third PG.

But not one who is likely to make a roster or do much of anything.

That's why I was talking about a third PG - she's the second. If Bird gets hurt or just misses games here and there, someone has to run things when Canada isn't on the floor. For all her talents, Loyd's been pretty shaky in the past when they've asked her to be a primary ballhandler.

Sure, we've been worrying about life after/without Bird for about 10 years. Nothing is going to be the same without her. I learned my lesson last year, I'm not going to count her out until she officially hangs it up.

I agree with you about the utility that Quinn provided. It was nice to have such an experienced player to backup a few positions.

The cap space might be getting tight but I wonder if they end up with a ring-chasing vet filling that insurance spot (Prince, Zellous, even Pondexter). None of them are point guards but they could help take some ballhandling pressure off Loyd when necessary, as long as they were willing to accept a limited role. Problem is that they'd probably also have to play for less cash than they're used to...

In 20 games in 2018 (1 started), Quinn had an ATO of 13:10
In 8 games for the playoffs, she was 0:0

In 33 games in 2018 (2 started), Canada had an ATO of 108:56
In 8 games for the playoffs, she was 18:10

In 34 games in 2018 (started all), Loyd had an ATO of 126:65
In 8 games for the playoffs, she was 26:15

I don’t think they’ll be missing Quinn as a player at all, which helps explain the job change within the same organization.
