For those wondering what's on ESPN/ESPN2 on Friday. ESPN has the US Open & ESPN2 has College Football. It was either switch to Friday so Seattle plays at Key Arena, or play the game on Thursday at Alaska Airlines Arena and air it on ESPN2.

So the Mystics' games will be played at EagleBank Arena in George Mason University. Bigger arena but it's in Fairfax, Virginia.

For what it's worth, the Mystics are running a free shuttle service from the Vienna metro station to the arena. They're doing what they can.

Apparently a Game 5 would've been back at Capital One if they'd had homecourt, which just makes the timing of the renovations more disappointing. Presumably they left them as late as possible to still be finished in time for the Wizards, which rather shafted the Mystics for their playoff run.

Happy to hear about the shuttle service. Prefer the bigger arena for the Finals, hopefully the Mystics fans can get the 10k and sellout Eagle Bank.

Why did they ever schedule it there to begin with? We've known when the NFL opener was going to be since forever.

They weren't going to move it from Thursday if the game was in Washington though, despite EagleBank Arena appearing to be free that day. So avoiding the NFL clash may not have been considered as important as having the game on a proper TV channel.

And if they didn't want that clash they really should've thought about it months ago. The NFL starts on basically the same week every year, and they've done the Thursday-night opener for a while now. This isn't new.

Why do they always schedule the Sunday ABC game to start during the 4th quarter of the early NFL games, instead of waiting another 30-45 minutes to start afterwards? Or am I the only person who is both a WNBA & NFL fan in the universe who prefers not having to watch multiple games simultaneously? Smile

ESPN & ABC basically have nothing to air on Sundays once the NFL season starts. There's typically bowling on ESPN and that's it. I think ESPN likes having the WNBA once the NFL starts.

Well, I can't explain the WNBA's thinking here. As of the first week of August, though, there was talk about the WNBA wanting to move Game 1 away from Sept 6.

If the WNBA and ESPN wanted Game 1 on Thursday, it would be on Thursday.

On a different note, there's absolutely no mention on the Mystics site, the EagleBank Arena site, or on TicketMaster, that Game 4 is an 'if necessary' game. Shouldn't they at least mention that, and maybe offer a note about what happens to your money if the game ultimately doesn't exist?

NEVER complain about a WNBA game being played on ABC. The two ABC broadcasts a year is how mainstream America realizes that the WNBA even exists.

The best thing about the Merc losing is that the ABC audience will be treated to a game with a full and rocking Key Arena rather than a half filled college arena in Atlanta or Washington.

Mystics only drew 3,700+ each for their two games at the Smith Center. I hope the fans show up for the finals and they get close to 10k.

Then an official sell out is 3722 people

There were empty seats on the side for both games.
