The Phoenix city council approved the remodeling plans for Talking Stick Resort Arena where the Mercury currently play. Renovations should not impact this season but the Mercury will most likely be playing somewhere else in 2020.

"We were arguably four minutes from winning a title last year," Mercury general manager Jim Pitman said.

They were in the Finals? 124 minutes away from a title seems a little more accurate.

Quote:
January received a max salary ($115,000) last season, her first with the Mercury, and likely will again for her 11th WNBA season.

Okay, we’ll pencil her in at max.

Quote:
If Lyttle doesn't return, the Mercury could try to replace her with the No. 8 overall pick in the WNBA draft on April 10. Stanford's Alanna Smith, Australian Ezi Magbegor and California's Kristine Anigwe are potential Phoenix draft candidates.

Quote:
The Mercury retain reserve rights to guard Marta Xargay and forward Sonja Petrovic although Pitman does not envision either returning from Europe this year.

Quote:
Pitman is not certain when he will hire an assistant coach to replace fired Todd Troxel. Former Mercury forward Penny Taylor, Taurasi's spouse, could be a candidate if she is interested in full-time coaching.

4 minutes of basketball plus 120 minutes of formalities.
Either way it doesn't really help us to gloss over the regular season inconsistency that was our real issue. Dropping games we shouldn't have dropped is what caused us to be dead bitches in the semi finals instead of the finals.

Also rather ignores that they were 4 minutes away from going out in the second round to Connecticut.

They should not even be thinking about not re signing Fluffy Little Bunny(Mitchell) if they are smart.

From the article:
"All-WNBA stars Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner already are under contract as are Stephanie Talbot, Camille Little, Leilani Mitchell and Marie Gulich."

Aw too bad. I was hoping that both would come over. They are both playing well with Kursk and fit into the Mercury's style of play.

Adding January and Bonner would give Phoenix eight signed players. Figure one spot for the first round draft pick.

If only the Camille Little money was not guaranteed...

I'm guessing they go with Bonner at PF.

PG: January
SG: Sims/Turner
SF: Taurasi/Talbot
PF: Bonner/Little/draft pick
C: Griner/Gulich or draft pick

Yeah, I guess that might be the plan, unless they pick up Langhorne, or their rookie PF turns out to be the ROY.

I don't think Mitchell is going anywhere. If LA doesn't match the Sims offer, Phoenix is set with the guards and small forward positions. And if they go with only 11 players, the only other opening is the draft pick.

PHX has #8 & #13, both likely to be decent players.

Is "likely" really the word to use there?

Yes, that’s why I used it.

Sims signed an offer from the Merc. Will it be matched?

How often do teams let their valuable RFA’s walk away?
Sign and trade?
Sign and keep?

Sims for Talbot and #13 is my quick trade idea Smile

On the first day of WNBA free agency, guard Briann January re-signed with the Phoenix Mercury. It's a three-year contract that if completed will take January, 32, to 13 years as a professional. She led the league in 3-point shooting percentage (47.0) in 2018 despite playing the entire season, her first with the Mercury, with a right shoulder injury.
