Not the GM, but “Brondello also serves as the team’s vice president of player personnel.”

Now, all the front office needs to do is move Camille Little and her butt to someone else's bench & that would put us under the salary cap. We can't just cut/waive her, as she has a guaranteed contract.

I dont get this move. Carson at 32 will not improve anymore. Career 32% from behind the arc. I dont think she will shoot better then last year (36%) and everybody was raving about that. Talbot is a lot younger then her (24) much better shooter and has shown a lot of promise defensively. Can guard multiple positions. Yes Carson is a better defender but how many years will she keep that up.

I’m literally waiting to see what team is dumb enough to trade for Camille Little.

In Turkey, Galatasaray has terminated the contracts of overpaid, underperforming American players by accusing them of partying too much. It's worth a try.

Nope. For all the reasons gone into in great detail in previous posts on this thread.

With all the injuries, pregnancy, etc, it seems to me that Indy and Chicago will feature 2 of the stronger backcourts in the league.

Liberty or Wings should pick up Mitchell.

No, Mitchell was enough to get under. It was always one non-guaranteed vet, or two of the cheap options.

Mitchell is better than Carson though...

It was a pipe dream to get a trade for Little..but it would have been nice to remove the temptation from Sandy..hopefully the younger players step up. Turner is going to have an opportunity.

Yeah, it sucks to lose Leilani. What a costly screw-up.
And that final roster … it's a pretty extraordinary mix of inexperience and oh she still hasn't retired?
Which isn't to say it's not a strong lineup. When healthy. Which could easily be never during 2019.

I dont know how attached Mitchell was to Phoenix - she's obviously played in a bunch of places over the years - but it is within the realms of possibility that they just sign her right back. If she clears waivers they could cut Carter and sign Mitchell with everything that they've got left under the cap (mid-70k rather than the mid-90k she was on before). New York did something similar with Swin Cash a couple of years back.

They've got three of the 10 oldest players in the league and four rookies, most in the league on both counts

Emese has signed an overseas contract with Avenida (Spain). WNBA training camp contracts can really open doors for players overseas

"With that in mind, I went around to as many of the Mercury as I could and asked them the same question: who was the person that, when you were a young player, showed you what it means and what it takes to be a professional basketball player?" -- Alex Simon (High Post Hoops)

Who helped the Mercury veterans when they were rookies?

Practice updates, from Alex Simon (High Post Hoops)

– Diana Taurasi (back surgery) isn’t back yet, but is progressing well and continued to get shots up and do other light work around the side of the court. Brondello said Taurasi will be re-evaluated next week and that could lead to an updated timeline beyond the initial 10-12 weeks, but the key in Phoenix’s mind is for Taurasi to be 100% healthy.

– Sancho Lyttle (knee) is very close to returning, with Brondello stating she’s “hoping to get a few minutes out of her” in Friday’s game against the Aces.

– Camille Little (ankle) just began running up and back on the basketball court in Monday’s practice, and Brondello admitted she’s not sure when Little will be back yet.

– One interesting spectator at Monday’s practice: Leilani Mitchell, who was the final cut for the Mercury last Thursday.

Seems like she would have been a very worthy buyout candidate. She must be a good locker room presence.

More jumping to conclusions and bad reporting by High Post Hoops. This is how rumors get started.

Agreed. High Post Hoops has issued a correction.

Quote:
UPDATED: a previous version of this story incorrectly stated that former Mercury guard Leilani Mitchell was at practice. In fact, the person at practice was Dr. Tasha Harris, seen here. High Post Hoops regrets the error.
