Christmas has ATL ties, right? Seems almost too perfect.
She seems to like Dallas though. Wouldn’t be too surprised if she gets signed at a discount.
Wouldn’t be too surprised if Agler let’s her go and brings in Carson instead, if he has that much say about it.

Carson has so much going on off the court in LA, doubt she ever thinks about leaving.

LAS has to make room for Gray’s salary.
I figure Carson would have to accept half of what she made last year, or else they’d have to do something like trade Lavender, which isn’t out of the question.

Why is it out of the question, Masha will probably take a lot of her minutes this year anyway.

I probably glazed over this, and hope it's just a typo/oversight by whoever typed the placeholder months ago for the Dream on the Farm's website.

Not much to choose from, esp for a 3.

I could see going after Christmas-Kelly if there is reason to think her injury is fully healed. She could start until Angel is back and might take some of the load off of Angel after that. Maybe Alex Montgomery. Or (heavens forbid) TRP.

The ideal player for that role would be Bria Holmes. Sad

We've got nine players under contract. If we go with 11, we can fit one large contract and our first rounder. I'd make a run at Cloud, make the Mystics pay to keep her.

'Twas great to see Coach Collen on the Hawks broadcast again yesterday. Emphasized "shooting" as the offseason priority as free agency tipped off.

Odd they wouldn't have an announcement. Their sponsor would probably like an official announcement.

Shooting has been pretty elusive for the Dream. I don't recall the Dream ever having the player who could shoot lights out (36% plus career from 3), but was still good enough on defense and other parts of the game to get off the bench. We always seem to have the athletic players who are streaky 3 point shooter that come in 30% or less career average. I'm thinking Hayes at 32% is the teams all time career 3 point FGA leader (among players that played a reasonable amount of time.) Montgomery could be the best if she stays with the team and continues to shoot well.

Was wondering about the Kristy Wallace situation post-ACL tear.

https://www.canberratimes.com.au/sport/basketball/capitals-star-kristy-wallace-breaks-silence-after-re-tearing-acl-20190112-p50qz8.html

https://wnbafan.blog/2019/01/21/atlanta-dream-team-support-kristy-wallace/

What does "sticking by," "standing by," mean from a WNBA team contracts/CBA perspective?

Quote:
The 16th pick in the 2018 WNBA draft has been reassured her American career is still alive, with Atlanta coach Nicki Collen telling Wallace the club will stand by her.

"She’s super supportive and said she will stick by me... like what team does that," Wallace said.

"It's so unlike the industry to do that and for a team to back me when I'm at my lowest really lifts me up and shows the character they have."

She probably feels at a low point, like no team would want her. So for ATL to tell her to come into camp whenever she’s ready, although not that big of a deal, probably gives her a mental boost. There’s definitely no guarantee that she’ll make the team when she arrives.

Plane ticket from (and probably to) AUS, room and board for camp - not inconsequential money wise, but yeah - nothing more than that.

Thanks for finding that Shades. Looks like she's out for the season. Season ends Sept. 8. If her one year expectation holds up, she might be back in time to play in the playoffs.

Dream didn't match the Lynx offer for Dantas due to the guaranteed contract situation. Dantas won some games for us when her 3 was on - if she could get consistent with that, she would be a big catch for the Lynx and a big loss for the Dream. So far it hasn't happened, but she did play better for the Lynx than the Dream. Of course, it was probably a lot easier to play on a team with 5 all stars. We'll see how she does on a team depleted by age and circumstances.

If Billings can pick up where she left off last year and improve from there Dream should be ok. Also there are plenty of posts in this draft so even if Billings has the usual 2nd year slump we may be ok. Ideally the Dream would go for a 3 in the draft but there are never enough of them go around. Wonder if the Sky would consider a deal for Gabby Williams (say No. 11?) or maybe Copper (2RP?)? TRP is UFA so we could get her for nothing (other than cap space, though the Dream are short on cap space.)

If ATL couldn't match Minnesota's offer for Dantas due to the guaranteed contract situation...would they be able to sign TRP?? Or anyone else for that matter. Or can they sign her to a non-guaranteed contract??

Teams are limited to 6 guaranteed contracts - Dream already have 6. They can sign anybody who is willing to take the chance they will not be cut. Based on that - about half the players in the WNBA don't have guaranteed contracts.

Lynetta Kizer I guess will take the place of Dantas?

If she makes the team she will probably be a backup for the 4 and 5 positions. She is on a training camp contract.

I think it’s a way to taunt Reeve for stealing Dantas away. If Kizer has a great year, even better than Dantas’, Reeve will never hear the end of it. Now Reeve has to worry about that. Wink
