Connecticut Sun Announce Partnership With NESN

https://sun.wnba.com/news/connecticut-sun-announce-partnership-with-nesn/

Quote:
“This new partnership is tremendous for the Connecticut Sun and its loyal fan base,” stated Amber Cox, Vice President of Connecticut Sun. “With 23 games locally on NESN combined with our national coverage, we can now showcase our exciting brand of basketball in households across New England. Ratings for the WNBA continue to rise – fans want to watch, attend and follow – and this helps us deliver on that. Not to mention, the promotional muscle NESN provides us through their other live programming allows us to expose new fans to our game, experience and players.”

Emma Cannon waived today. One cut left for the Sun. Looks like Bridget Carleton (more likely) or Natisha Hiedeman.

And as Curt Miller says every year, whoever he cuts deserves to be in the WNBA.... as he gets teary-eyed.

Either one should get picked up. Liberty could use one of them. If it's Hiedeman, Dallas should grab her.

The list of second-round picks who aren't good enough to make the roster of the team that drafted them but go on to succeed somewhere else in the WNBA is very, very short. Even among the few who eventually make it, they're often the type who go away and improve and then get back in the league later on.

Espn best case worst case for 2019 article.

http://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/26762341/wnba-2019-season-predictions-best-worst-case-scenarios-team

Talk about a narrow range, they make the second round in both the best and worst cast scenarios. Only question is do they win their 1st playoff game or not.

Connecticut Sun
2018: 21-13, lost in second round to Phoenix

Best case: In the absence of Chiney Ogwumike, who was traded to Los Angeles, the Sun get back the 2017 version of center Jonquel Jones for the whole season. They are not a star-studded squad, but it doesn't matter as they are again one of the league's best shooting teams. The Sun reach the semifinals.

Worst case: The Sun miss Ogwumike more than they expected, but they still get a first-round bye. They lose for the third year in a row in the second round.

Going by her twitter page, I'm going out on a limb and saying Bridget Carleton was cut. She removed many of her Sun references on her twitter.

https://twitter.com/bridgecarleton

If that is the case, the Sun are down to 12 and don't need to cut another.

And it was her birthday yesterday too. Nice present, Curt Miller.

It was probably the right move if you consider Carleton more of a forward than a guard.

Carleton being immediately bitter. I kinda like that.
Fellow Canadian Achonwa follows Carleton, so I wonder if Achonwa is advising Pokey which waiver morsel she should be picking up. Pokey seems like a Burke type tho.

It's kind of odd that the Sun didn't include their opening day roster on the announcement of waiving Hiedeman. Maybe they're hoping to sign another player and still release Carleton?

What references were there? Google's cache of her twitter (from Monday evening) looks the same as it does now other than a few tweets/retweets she's made since then. I don't think anything changed.

The final roster is set.

JThomas/Clarendon
Williams/Banham/Carleton
Stricklen/Holmes
AThomas/Tuck
JJones/BJones/Anigwe

Now lets just hope they can get it together and make it further into the playoffs and maybe even the finals Very Happy

Courtney Williams is showing the WNBA how to let loose
Quote:
Few people saw Courtney Williams coming. Now she’s bending the WNBA to her joy.

On August 23, 2018, Courtney Williams had the audacity to rankle the GOAT.
Before the Connecticut Sun played the Phoenix Mercury in the playoffs, the slim, 5’8 guard posted her traditional gameday Instagram photo. In it, she is jumping for joy while a stone-faced Diana Taurasi — arguably the greatest WNBA player of all time — stalks the court in the foreground. The caption read, “Gooo timeee!! Playoffs babyyyyy.” ...

Williams' firm stance is Taurasi's response was "mad corny."

Laughing I agree

Wonder if she'll manage to break one free throw per game this season...

I figured she'd play overseas and I figure college teammate Allazia Blockton will do so also. I had just gotten my hopes up she was going to make the team and was really bummed to see she was the last cut.

Sun have waived Carleton & claimed Natisha Hiedeman off of waivers. Hiedeman was released by Atlanta on Monday when Bentley returned.
