The score is tied with 15 seconds on the game clock. You give the ball to a player just inside the half court line. She must score herself on a shot or free throw, or make only one pass to a teammate for a score. Her teammates clear out and the defense reacts accordingly. Whom do you pick?

If you prefer someone not on the list, name her.

After the Lynx first and last games against the Sparks this season, I’ll say Lynx-killer Chelsea Gray.

So the classic look is usually called "Flat," with four players spaced out on the baseline, and the chosen one with the ball at the top of the key ...

I can't really choose between Cynthia Cooper and Diana Taurasi so I have to pass on the vote -- and I also give a nod to the inclusion to Azzi Fudd, named for, yes, that Azzi, and a high school sophomore.

I never saw Azzi Fudd play, but I voted for her anyway. Mainly because I like the fact that she was named after Jennifer Azzi. Also, both of her parents played hoops (Katie Smrcka-Duffy Fudd is a former Sacramento Monarchs draft pick), and her last name reminds me of Elmer Fudd. Very Happy

I love Seimone like crazy...but she has to be my second choice. Taurasi is the one you give the ball to in that situation.

That's not exactly how I'd run it, but I like my chances with Die Bitches.

I would go with DT one of my favs of all time.

But let's not forget there were a couple of seasons in PX when with DT on the floor that shot went to Cappie.

I think that was more about Cappie’s ego, than either’s Abilities.

Cappie was finals MVP in 2007, and deservedly so.

Yup.

And she left after Diana was named finals MVP in 2009.

I don’t mean Cappie wasn’t a great option. Maybe the second best option in the league at the time. I simply mean, she wasn’t the absolute best option.

+1 , She was their best 1 on 1 player hands down that year. Paul knew it as well , nothing to do with her EGO Rolling Eyes 2009 was a bit weird as well . Cappie pretty much lead the 2 headed attack being the breakdown offensive player while DT played off the ball for open shots. I was surprised DT won MVP of the finals that year as well . I mean it wasnt a snub but cappie could have 2 finals MVPs easily.

I don't remember Taurasi being involved in "clear out and I will go one on one" situations. Seems like screens are always involved. She dribbles around one and takes a three, or she runs around one and takes a pass and shoots a three.

Yeah, it's usually the other play teams run in end-of-period situations - the high pick-and-roll. She's such a gifted passer and decision-maker on top of just the shooting that it makes sense. You could see tonight, along with countless other Mercury games, that often their first choice play is a basic Taurasi-Griner PnR up top with shooters spaced on the wings.

I agree that DT is probably the GOAT

but going back to Cappie and the clear out there was a year in NY when WIZ was the coach and the 4th quarter offense was give the ball to Cappie, she will do something one and one and score, or maybe pass but not likely (even though she averaged over 4 assists per game that season. Sometimes it wasn't even give the ball to Cappie because she was the one who would dribble it up the court. And even though everyone knew what was going to happen it was still surprisingly effective.

If we wanted an All Clear-Out Team with all five positions filled with vote getters, it would seem to be:

1 - Bird
2 - Taurasi
3 - Swoopes
4 - EDD
5 - LJ

Yeah, I'd like that as a coach.

I voted DT. Give her 15 seconds and an option to take the shot or pass, the odds are pretty good that DT wins that game. It may be her own basket or a teammate, she won't care which.

The pass was the deciding factor for me. DT and Bird would make the pass over taking the shot if there was an open player with good odds of making the basket. And they would be able to see that and understand the situation. Most of the rest on that list wouldn't pass but would take the shot themselves, even with an open player and double team. Many would make it, EDD, Seimone, and Stewart being the most likely. (I don't know the college players so I can't say what I think they would do.)

The free throw would never be a factor. Our "officials" wouldn't make the call if the player was physically thrown to the floor and spurting blood.

With or without the pass, Cappie (in her prime), with that much time, would be a top contender. She would never use the pass but would be effective. IMO, the odds go up with a player who will pass.

Take away the pass and put 3 seconds on the clock and DeWanna Bonner would have to be considered as a viable option.
