If she’s hinting at a Maya trade, she’d definitely wouldn’t want to make that public. It’d have to be a inconceivably great trade for Reeve not to become as unpopular as Trump.

At least people may then reconsider everything I've said about Reeve and/or prove that the Howard Curse is real, meaning the Lynx are likely doomed to be 9-25 and/or be the 2nd worst team in the league in 2019. Smile

Is that a guess or do you have something solid to go on?

She hasn’t played since August. That’s already a bunch of time off with over more 4 months until the season. Hmm....

The rumor has been going around since at least Thanksgiving

Okay, show me the rumor because I’m pretty sure nobody is saying this to your face.

Is this the first volley in the Ionescu tank war. Twisted Evil

Lynx can't even tank right. At least other teams didn't start their tank by trading away MVP-caliber superstars for only 2nd round picks, putting a curse on their own team and players in the process. Smile More likely Ionescu declares this year, and Lynx end up with Jessica Shepard and another boring player to show for deciding to suck, instead of anything good. Smile

WCCO’s Mike Max reported Wednesday that Moore was considering not returning next season. Max said she might retire, or take a year off, or even ask to be traded.

https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2019/01/14/ap-sources-moore-charles-given-franchise-tags/

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) — Maya Moore and Tina Charles aren’t going anywhere.

Two people familiar with the deals told The Associated Press that the former UConn teammates were given the franchise tag by Minnesota and New York for the upcoming WNBA season.

It’s no real surprise that the perennial All-Stars won’t hit the free-agent market.

OOPS!

I'm thrilled about any idea of Maya Moore never playing for the Lynx again, as why should she waste her career in Minnesota when Reeve made it clear last year she doesn't think Maya is anything special/doesn't want the Lynx to win again as shown last offseason by her instead of keeping/having as much talent as possible around Maya so the Lynx can continue to win with her with the other core players aging/nearing retirement, making the classic tank/long-rebuild moves of letting top players (Montgomery, Howard), go to teams where they win titles, as favors, for little/no compensation?

You must be on drugs, because the idea of intentionally making a team worse by having a team of as many old, washed up mediocre vets, as possible, instead of star-caliber players (and routing one of those star-caliber players to a team with an MVP-caliber superstar for basically no compensation so they can win more titles than your own team) never made any sense.

That is one scary tweet ...

It makes sense for Moore to take some time off, and it makes sense for her to take it off during the WNBA season, which will allow her to collect the larger European salary.

You have to wonder, though, if this is partially a negotiating ploy to get out from under the core-player restrictions, which are extremely biased against the player. Maybe she plays this summer but can be a UFA next year?

Lots could be happening, or she could just be tired ...

Just to note:
a) She didn't play overseas this offseason. It's not like she was raking in the cash overseas recently and decided the WNBA wasnt worth it.
b) There's every chance that the core designation is removed in the next CBA, or at least significantly rewritten. Which would mean it'd be one year because after that it wouldn't exist.

And I'm with pilight - this isn't springing up out of thin air. It was just a matter of when it was going to start leaking into the press. Funny thing is, I'm not sure anyone had paid much attention to the initial report until the Lynx put out their press release. Not convinced that was the best way to handle this, but I guess they wanted to get out in front of it as much as they could.

I find it odd she'd want to retire. Sit out the season, sure. Then go play overseas in 2019-2020 and return to the WNBA in 2020 under a new CBA, get the max deal and basically pick who she wants to play for.

if Moore sits out, Lynx are instantly a lottery team. I wouldn't be surprised if Augustus and/or Brunson announce they're retiring. Fowles then gets stuck playing with a bunch or scrap players.

She doesn't want to play without a whole squad of All Stars.

Wonder where Maya would want to go? Vegas? Connecticut? Atlanta? Seattle?

Moore to Atlanta for #11 pick, Hayes, Williams & their 2020 first rounder?

You're not getting anything close to that kind of haul for a player asking out, even when it's Maya. Look at what teams have gotten in similar recent moves. Dolson, Copper and a pick in a shitty draft for Delle Donne. A pick and some scrubs for Fowles. And that was for players where the word 'retire' hadn't been mentioned in the rumours...
