Now I’m not seeing a way to sign Zandalisini, unless Coates turns out to be a mega-dud.

maybe

Robinson/Brown
Augustus/Sims/Ting
Christmas/Talbot
Dantas/Collier
Fowles/Shepard/Coates

Sims probably ends up logging the most minutes at the guard spots even off the bench

Shepard gives me a J-Mac vibe so maybe give her some minutes at Center

I would assume that Coates and Ting would be the one cut if Fagbenle or Zandalsini show up but it feels like they might not be showing up. Trading for Talbot and Coates even 2nd and 3rd round picks in a not very deep draft feels like the type of moves a team makes when they want to be competitive now and want some depth on their bench. If you are planning on giving the spots back to people missing a 3rd of the season why not just keep the picks and let some rookies or waiver wire players get the minutes. Talbot is a vet who makes very few mistakes and Coates is a lottery pick with size who could still at least develop into a nice defensive bench presence.

Considering they lost 3 of the five starters from the championship team 2 years ago this Lynx team looks like it could make some noise.

That looks correct. Odd to think they only have three returning players from last season (Robinson, Augustus & Fowles).

I’m intrigued by both moves. Would like to see what Coates can do after being around Syl, Walt, and P. Hopefully she can improve some. But for. 3rd round pick, very low risk. Talbot will be a solid player. Should be interesting. Hopefully Coates has a revenge game on Saturday Laughing

Spooner, Fagbenle has already been here. I even posted a media day video of her in this thread. But she’s gonna leave soon for Eurobasket. It’s pretty evident she’ll be back.

But I’m not really seeing what Reeve is seeing in Coates. Is she really that much better than Alleyne, or AWT who will probably hit the waiver wire?

I didn't realize Fagbenle was already there.

In that case maybe Coates is just getting an audition and Reeves didn't think she would last through the waiver wire.

I hope they don't cut Ting I would like to see her get a chance to stick this season.

Talbot is a steal for the lynx. Smart move to get her for nothing almost

I really like these moves. Hopefully Coate's shows that she is worth the 2nd overall pick with the Lynx.

I doubt they've filed the suspension paperwork yet, so technically yes. After Thursday, almost certainly no.

I love what the Lynx have done for this transitional season. A good mix of underutilized talent and solid vets. I don't expect Coates to really do anything but at that price it's worth a shot, eh?

Coates is definitely worth a look, especially for virtually zero cost. Like I said last season, her per minute numbers really weren't that bad, especially for a rookie, but she just couldn't stay out there or earn the minutes. The best-case scenario is something like Crystal Langhorne, who showed promise and was efficient as a rookie but needed time to learn how to defend and push past the vets in the rotation.

It's obviously not a good sign that Wade and Chicago are giving up on her so quickly, despite hardly having a murderer's row of posts in front of her, but they could just be wrong. And hey, they'd just have picked whoever was graduating from some local school that year anyway. Can just sign the same kid after the draft.

Coates, at least from the games I saw(and I’m a Sky fan so I watched all of them), looked over matched and inadequate on both ends of the court. And I’m talking about against end of the bench players. Per minute numbers don’t look that bad, but with little playing time to match it’s hard to gauge, IMO.

Hopefully with a new change of scenery she can improve.

I don’t know why Reeve signed her for $80K. She should have been an easy vet minimum signing.

With Coates joining the Lynx with no camp or assimilation time, she’ll probably get tossed into the third center role while Fagbenle is gone. Sounds like Fagbenle wants to leave as soon as possible. I’m seeing Dantas as the first backup to Fowles, which would take minutes from her from primary PF role in those times. Shepard may be getting more minutes than anybody anticipated.

The Larkins cut seemed inevitable after yesterday's trades because it was the only way to get under the cap and keep everyone who looked like they were staying, but I'm still a little impressed that Reeve was willing to go this route. Outside of Fowles, Dantas is the only post on the roster with any meaningful WNBA experience, after which you're down to a second-year player who got dumped for nearly nothing, a second-round rookie, and emergency posts who are mostly considered 3s. For a coach who's always preferred vets, it's good that she didn't twist the roster uncomfortably to make sure she could keep a vet option.

That said, maybe they'll just sign Kia Vaughn on top of bringing Fagbenle back once EuroBasket is out of the way...

#Lynx roster update, per @LynxCoachReeve: They’re keeping 12. Temi Fagbenle begins season on suspended list, so roster is set. Three rookies — Napheesa Collier, Jessica Shepard and Shao Ting — make the team.

Same. Hope she doesn't get cut when either Fagbenle or Zandalasini arrive.

Behind the scenes look at Lynx (facilities, chef, etc), plus interview with Collier.

Some top notch stuff right there.
