Wonderful news. I will fully celebrate when it's official. The thought of being rid of Hideous Lord Jimmy and, I assume, sexual harasser Isiah Thomas is very sweet. |
That depends on who Tsai will hire to be the GM and other front-office staff. |
Not to me. It will be very sweet to see those two disgusting men gone no matter what.

How long does a player have to “retire” before her rights become invalid? That could be a court-worthy issue.
This should definitely be Lynx convo, not Liberty. |
I believe the only time this has actually happened was with Stacey Dales, and that was a one year gap. But I believe in that instance, the Mystics released her rights voluntarily. Definitely not going to happen in Tina or Maya.

It's official!

The team’s home arena for the 2019 season will remain the Westchester County Center. In the summer, the Liberty will host a Comm-UNITY Day celebrating community, diversity and inclusion at a to-be-announced game hosted at Barclays Center. |

So, aside from the one game at Barclays, all the other Liberty home games will still be at that Westchester Center?

The two 11am Kids Day games have always been listed without a venue. I would imagine one of those will be the Comm-UNITY game, and the other might be in Brooklyn as well. |

Why do I get the feeling StevenHW didn't read my pull quote?

About Joe Tsai
Quote: |
In addition to owning 49% of the Brooklyn Nets, Mr. Tsai is owner of the San Diego Seals, an expansion franchise in the National Lacrosse League playing its inaugural season. Mr. Tsai is a founder of Alibaba Group, a China-based global technology company with businesses in e-commerce, cloud computing and entertainment. He is executive vice chairman of Alibaba Group and has been a member of its board of directors since the company’s inception in 1999. Originally from Taiwan, Mr. Tsai attended the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey where he played football and lacrosse, and later he played lacrosse as an undergraduate at Yale College. After earning his juris doctor degree from Yale Law School, Mr. Tsai worked in New York City for many years, where he met his wife, Clara Wu. |

The first camp game is a schedule conflict with Barclays. Maybe it gets played in Nassau or Newark? Looks like the second camp game will be at Barclays. But I'm hoping it's anything but a camp day game at Barclays. It's also a good sign the entire 2020 season will be at Barclays. For those wondering, the schedule likely gets made well in advance, so the games at Westchester were probably locked in months ago before Tsai starting talking to Dolan.

I guess he’s in disbelief?
The schedule has been set, WCC has been booked, season tickets may have been sold based on being at WCC, they’re probably stuck with the same front office. Might as well keep things going as is. Gives them a full year to plan out next season.

Hallelujah! These are the good signs for me:
Quote: |
Through their charitable foundation, Mr. Tsai and his wife Clara have been supporting New York institutions through philanthropy and local programs, including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, NYC Police Foundation’s youth mentorship program, criminal justice reform through the Reform Alliance, and K-8 education through Harlem Academy. |
Quote: |
“It is an honor and a privilege to join the Liberty and WNBA families,” said Mr. Tsai. “As one of New York’s proudest franchises, the Liberty has played a vital role in New York City over the past 22 years. The Liberty and WNBA exemplify what it means to compete at the highest level, serve as role models in the local community, and bring greater opportunities to female athletes. Our goal is to continue this important work and help bring the WNBA into its next phase of growth.” |

We now see some indication of a connection to the area and a sense of idealism as it relates to promoting female sports. This gives me some assurance that Tsai isn't delusional about turning around the franchise quickly and making money. If he views it more as good works rather than primarily as a business proposition then he'll likely hang in there for the long term. Liberty fans needed this deal either way, but now I feel more comfortable that we won't have to hear about another attempt to sell the team in four or five years.

Yeah, the WNBA could use more philanthropic owners instead of those looking for quick gains. Where’s Kobe? Where’s LeBron? Not sure KG is at their level financially but he wanted in on Wolves ownership. Maybe he could do WNBA instead. Bezo’s ex-wife. Job’s widow. I’d say Oprah, but she’s probably more greedy than philanthropic. Let’s all hop on board and get some NEW expansion teams going.

So it looks like the Tuesday, August 13 camp game vs. Minnesota is the likely game at Barclays. But I'm holding out hope for a different game to get played there. They could also make it a preview to STH for 2020 and likely make it a marketable game. The Friday night games at MSG always drew the bigger crowds, so maybe Tsai would considering moving a Friday game to Barclays. June 7 vs. Washington? June 28 vs. Dallas? Maybe Sunday, July 7 vs. Las Vegas? August 23 vs. Atlanta? August 30 vs. Connecticut?

The deal is done. I've posted a link on the other thread. Hideous Lord Jimmy is gone. I hope it'll soon be clear that sexual harasser Isiah is gone as well.

Luuuc, I know it's a blow to the Aussie team, but I didn't see her making the Liberty roster this season anyways.

Neither did I (but I didn't last year either). I figured it was still relevant to this thread and of interest to Lib fans.

It's certainly of interest. Sad news. I wish her well whenever and wherever she's playing.
