Sky waived Chloe Jackson. Not surprised. My guess is we pick up another post. McCaulay perhaps? She just finished her commitment with the Nigerian National team.

With Lavender out for the season it makes sense since Williams is now the default backup PG. Thought maybe Jackson would be let go before the guaranteed contract deadline. Jackson does get paid for the remainder of the season.

Courtney Vandersloot pledges loyalty to Sky: ‘For now, I’m Chicago for life’
https://chicago.suntimes.com/chicago-sky-and-wnba/2019/8/20/20825883/courtney-vandersloot-pledges-loyalty-to-sky-im-chicago-for-life

Any question of Courtney Vandersloot’s loyalty to the Sky can be thrown the curb. With her contract expiring after this season, Vandersloot made it clear she wants to permanently stay in Chicago. |
Quote: |
Vandersloot credits her success to Chatman and Sky owner Michael Alter.
“After my first couple of years, they could’ve given up on me,” Vandersloot said, “but they didn’t because they saw something.
“There’s been a lot of ups and downs. Their loyalty to me means everything to me and I feel like I need to reciprocate that.” |
Quote: |
The Sky can designate Vandersloot as a core player three more times. She’s already among the top paid players in the league.
Vandersloot has also established roots here as her wife and teammate Allie Quigley, whose contract also expires after this season, bought a house near the Sky’s practice facility in Deerfield. |

"for life" sounds a lot better when it isn't preceded with "for now".

Right? One completely contradicts the other.

I think she wanted out when Stocks was in charge, so it's probably an acknowledgement that circumstances can change and affect that 'for life' thing. Sounds like she's put down roots so the Sky will be feeling much more comfortable about her sticking around - but if coring still exists in the next CBA I'd still expect them to use it on her to make sure (especially considering it gets them Quigley as well). |

That 'for now' definitely gave me a laugh.

I think Gabby was the trial by fire emergency backup PG that worked out better than expected. Whether they want to keep her in that position in the future is hard to say. I’ve always thought it was the potentially ideal position for her even before she was drafted.
I don’t think CHI will do 7-day contracts unless they are really unsure of who to bring in. They don’t have time to mess around. A player must be on the roster on August 26 to be available for the playoffs. |
Gabby is def better at PG than PF. But that's not saying much. KLS at PF = Gabby at PF. Geno makes his players look capable of anything, but it's a mirage. Time to get real with scouting UConn players.

Is anyone else underwhelmed by the Alexander signing? Not that McCaulay was going to set any world's on fire, but Alexander has one good year with SASS and that's it. I'd almost prefer AWT at this point.

Seriously? Bird, Taurasi, Charles, Stewie, Maya, Hayes, Nurse, and even Dolson -- all All-Stars and 4 MVPs among them.
Don't paint ALL the UCONN players with the brush of disappointment due to some.

The Sky has matured well this year as a team. I would like to see them be aggressive with free agency next season. They may not get any blue chip players in the next draft so getting good players with free agency will be the best way for them to improve.

Clearly many UConn players are great players - especially the ones who were #1 coming out of high school into UConn. And clearly Geno does a great job in developing players. Not sure why the Sky seem to pick the UConn players least likely to excel in the WNBA. Gabby is a decent rotation player. Jury still out on Katie Lou as her rookie season was shortened by injury - much like her college seasons. And - PS - using her at PF will only increase her propensity to be injured as well as not contribute to team success. Unless she's just too darn slow to defend SF in the W.

How is it clear he does a great job developing players? He gets the most (and probably is able to select in a lot of cases) USA Basketball U16, U17, U18 players. Odds favor he will have the most WNBA players. Gabby Williams may be the only American UConner who made it to the WNBA without a USA Basketball background. And she came out unprepared to play in the pros - a 5’11” four with no shot (who was a guard in high school). Auriemma also doesn’t have to go very far down the rankings for his non-USA Basketball players.
