ROdgers
RObinson

Signed the same day? Something like an autocorrect glitch?

We know Robinson signing is confirmed. I don’t think the Liberty confirmed much of any of the Liberty transactions last season. They were pretty poor at it. I wonder if they announced anything on Twitter.

Nurse/Zealous/Raincock- Ekunwe
Charles/Zahui B/(Raincock- EKunwe)
Stokes/ Han Xu

There now we look a little taller

And we still have free agent options if any of ours don't re-sign

Already sucking up to the new Chinese owner, are we?

maybe

I would also be fine with Yueru or Ting as a free agent

I don’t think Yueru will be a free agent unless she goes undrafted.

Pardon my poor wording I meant drafting Yueru or Ting as a free agent.

Feinberg has a new Coach & GM poll:

https://www.courant.com/sports/uconn-womens-basketball/hc-sp-katie-lou-samuelson-napheesa-collier-wnba-draft-20190110-20190110-jmfabsj6cjgy5a7vipxrhnxzne-story.html

...the usual suspects, but Magbegor at #4? Seems to me Wade would be looking for more immediate post help.

Updated GM Mock Draft
I’ve replaced his basic analysis with my little quips. If you want to see his analysis (or whoever it was doing this because it’s so vague how they do this), you’ll have to go to the link.
https://www.victoriaadvocate.com/ap/sports/wnba-coaches-gms-tab-mccowan-for-top-pick-in-mock/article_5de86f9c-29ce-5616-a7d0-0e090335e8c1.html

First Round:
1. Las Vegas: Teaira McCowan , Mississippi State

Boo-yah!

2. New York: Asia Durr , Louisville

Well Katie Smith seems to have Reeve-itis (an unhealthy obsession with guards), so this wouldn’t be all that surprising. Best guard in the draft, but not really what the team needs.

3. Indiana: Kalani Brown , Baylor

Good match for what they need.

4. Chicago: Ezi Magbegor , Australia

The Ezi-bashers aren’t going to like seeing her this high. Might be a good placement if they have patience. Is CHI still patient? They fired the last coach quickly, so I dunno.

5. Dallas: Katie Lou Samuelson , UConn

Bye bye, Christmas?

6. Minnesota: Arike Ogunbowale , Notre Dame

Umm, no please. Reeve-itis must be cured before this draft.

7. Los Angeles: Napheesa Collier , UConn

Might not be a bad match. But Sparks not exactly known for UConn players.

8. Phoenix: Brianna Turner , Notre Dame

I could see it if Ezi is off the board.

9. Connecticut: Sophia Cunningham , Missouri

Might be a good match for the supposed “culture” Miller is breeding in Conn. You know, disparaging fans, yelling at refs, yelling at opposing coaches. Classy stuff like that.

10. Washington: Kristine Anigwe , California

11. Atlanta: Alanna Smith , Stanford

Stretch 4/3. I guess it could work.

12. Seattle: Anriel Howard , Mississippi State

Second Round:
1. Phoenix: Jessica Shepard , Notre Dame

Both this mock and Dull’s is down on Shepard. I’m a little surprised.

2. New York: Xu Han , China

Han was made for Brooklyn.

3. Chicago: Caliya Robinson , Georgia

Has she been earning a place this high? Georgia has fallen off expectations.

4. Minnesota: Kenisha Bell , Minnesota

Quote:
First-year coach Lindsay Whalen will have Bell ready for the pros.

Wrong! She’s been on a downhill slide. It’s been so bad, I have a hard time seeing Bell as a pro. Maybe a part of it is she doesn’t have great teammates or an experienced coach. But she’s definitely not making her teammates better and that should be a part of her job.

5. Dallas: Marina Mabrey , Notre Dame

She’s not really a PG, Dallas. If that’s what you’re thinking.

6. Minnesota: Kitija Laksa , South Florida

Either some people are peeking or great minds think alike. I have her at #20 though in my ideal scenario.

7. Los Angeles: Chloe Jackson , Baylor

Doesn’t shoot the three. Can’t see it. Only Reeve and SpaceJunkie love PG’s that don’t shoot the three.

8. Minnesota: Jenna Allen , Michigan State

I could maybe see this because she’s McCarville-esque, but preferably as a third rounder.

9. Connecticut: Megan Gustafson , Iowa

Definitely bargain territory. Gustafson after Allen? Shocked

10. Dallas: Paris Kea , North Carolina

Okay, now I know they’re peeking this thread. How does a player with such mediocre stats reach this level? At least they didn’t put her in the first round.

11. Atlanta: Kiara Leslie , N.C. State

12. Seattle: Cierra Dillard , Buffalo

Peekers.

The Lynx have had eight first round pick in the Reeve era: four guards (Wright, L Moore, Liston, Jones) four front court players (M Moore, Harris, Peters, Dantas). That's not counting the one she traded away (Griffin) or the expansion pick (Brunson), both front court players.

That doesn't seem indicative of an obsession.

This isn't about "Ezi-bashers." Magbegor's Australian coaches -- including Brondello -- have primarily used her for limited minutes. The supposed WNBA panel is essentially saying that their Australian counterparts have no eye for talent or that they've squandered an opportunity. Either way, it's unflattering for somebody. It won't be a basement dweller.

Reeve’s in total charge of all the moves now. So if you want to call it a recent obsession, whatever.

And it’s not just about draft picks. It’s about trades. It’s about free agent pickups. You already forgot signing guards was more important to the Lynx than keeping Howard last year? That’s on you. Go read back. Don’t have time for rehashing.

And yet you love Laksa whose numbers are not as good as Kea's. And we haven't even talked about athletic ability.

She knew Whalen was about to retire and Augustus has lost several steps. That seems like good cause to look at guards.

I don’t love Laksa. I’ve been down on her for about a year now. I like her as a deferral pick when a team has 5 draft picks, only two will likely make the team and don’t want to waste the rest of the picks. She’s got potential because she used to be good. Isn’t that your argument for Kea?

I don't think it's an obsession with guards—it's, as is the crux of my bi-weekly outrage posts, an obsession with old vets/fear of young players. She "had" to sign Tanisha Wright last year, even though the math (which I neglected to do last year) would've said the Lynx couldn't afford her along with signing/re-signing a PG & re-signing Howard, because if she didn't, she'd have to play young players Alexis Jones and/or Zandalasini behind Augustus from Day 1, even though that wouldn't have been any worse (and the one thing Jones is good at is shooting 3s, so having her as backup SG in some matchups would've been just fine. She was capable in minutes in Games 3 & 4 of the 2017 WNBA Finals). Then go back another year, and Reeve probably wanted one of her favorite old vets Plenette Pierson signed, not just to replace McCarville's roster spot, but so she wouldn't have to give big minutes to Howard at Howard's main position, even though Howard had a big breakout season in 2016, which is why we thought Howard was supposed to be a future star. The Lynx being able to win without playing Howard much in 2017 probably made Reeve cocky she didn't need her, or she forget Howard was supposed to be good, though giving her away for little/nothing is a bad idea (because getting star players in the WNBA is hard, and that trade only made the Storm that much better and did nothing to help the Lynx in the short or long-term).
Fagbenle only started getting minutes and showed she can be at least a functional backup because Kizer ending up turning into damaged goods.
That's why I want Lynx to draft post at #6, and not sign any boring old posts, because #6 pick and Fagbenle would be good enough for post depth. And if there is any SGs out there who would be upgrade over old Wright and/or Jones who could be longer-term piece, I'm for it.

UNC 2-guard RS-Junior Stephanie Watts is eligible for the draft but I don't think she's anybody's draft radar. She's capable of scoring 27 points one game and 8 points the next game.

Ogunbowale is inching closer to being a lottery pick with tonight's game vs. Louisville. She should hope Ionescu doesn't declare early.

You beat me to it. People may say alot of things about her but the girl is a big shot taker and maker. You don't see too many players like her on the offensive end. Durr has talent as well but i dont see the gap that i thought existed between Asia & Arike. If Asia is a possible lottery than so should Arike. Neither are defensive stalwarts so thats a moot.

Top 6 are clearly McCowan, Brown, Durr, Ogunbowale, Samuelson & Collier. Gustafson can make it top 7. Interesting that one of these 7 can drop to the Sparks. or if Ionescu & Jackie Young enter that one of these 9 will go to Phoenix(#8) & Connecticut(#9). Who said this draft wasn't deep?

each of those players has some pretty glaring deficiencies.

I like both Durr and Ogunbowale I think Durr gets the nod in the rankings because she is a little bigger and has a more consistent 3 point shot. I think Alike has better handles and a bit more "it" factor. I think both at the next level will be scorers but both have enough skill and breakdown game to at least pretend to be pgs 10 minutes a night similar to say Pondexter or Prince

I would probably pick Durr over Ogunbowale but won't be shocked if Ogunbowale is a slightly better pro.

I really wouldn't be surprised if trader Bill made a trade for #1.

McCowan 18 pts, 21 reb inc 13 off reb, 2 blk in tonight’s game against GA.
Looks like she’s the #1 pick.
