The NWSL's Orlando Pride are expecting ~30,000 fans for their home opener on April 23 at the Citrus Bowl. This would break the NWSL record set by Portland(21,144) for largest crowd. The Pride have also sold over 7,000 season tickets. With two weeks to go, the Pride is contemplating opening a small section of the upper bowl to fill demand.

If this MLS-NWSL partnership is the key to the NWSL's long term success, I think expansion teams in Salt Lake City & San Jose(among others) will be in the immediate future.

23,404 was the final count I believe. Great for the future of the NWSL!

this also makes me believe that if any MLS club wants a NWSL team, they'll be fast-tracked into getting one. I'd say it's only a matter of how soon the NWSL announces Salt Lake City as an expansion team for 2017.

Comparing the MLS owned teams vs. the non-MLS owned teams is such a big difference. I wouldn't mind down the road if the Red Bulls buy SkyBlue & other MLS buy their NWSL counterparts(Chicago, Boston, Washington, Kansas City, Seattle). Western New York is the only NWSL team in a non-MLS city. Here's each teams home opener attendance. WNY has their opener

ATTENDANCE
1. Orlando - 23,404
2. Portland - 16,073
3. Kansas City - 8,022
4. Houston - 7,440
5. Seattle - 3,987
6. Boston - 3,743
7. Washington - 3,578
8. SkyBlue - 2,571
9. Chicago - 2,529

Houston Dash numbers would have been better, had they not had to move two games to Frisco and Edinburg because of the hurricane. Sad

With today's match at North Carolina drawing 4,068 the league, over 27 matches, has drawn 172,244 for an average of 6,379 per match.

This number should be twice that, but it handicapped by a few teams that play in "stadiums" that only fit 5-6K.

The difference for this season is Utah replacing Kansas City and Boston folding. I feel that's the main reason for the uptick in [average] attendance. Houston's numbers are disturbing for a MLS owned team. I'm sure the league will see an even bigger uptick with LA and possibly Vancouver & Toronto joining next season.

NWSL tops 6,000 for first time in league history.

http://www.kenn.com/the_blog/?p=9809

Again, mostly due to Kansas City & Boston folding and adding in Utah.

His Seattle numbers are too high. Seattle drew 45,885 with an average of 3,824

League still broke 6,000, but at 6,024 not 6,060.
