Do we have tentative dates yet for the playoffs? I know they start on the 21st and also that arena availabilities will change exact dates. But when would the second round games be and when would the semis and finals start?

I would like to know too!

Have to probably ask time off work, and tho I know the Storm haven't clinched yet, I am hoping-- tho they do have 5 games in the next 10 days, 4 of them on the road!!

The Storm might have already clinched. They own the tiebreak over Vegas. There could be some multi-team tie that leaves them out, haven't worked all that out yet.

The Storm definitely have not clinched yet. The two teams the Storm have losing records against (Atlanta and Minnesota) can both still lose their season series to Las Vegas and end up in a tie.

No. Either Atlanta or Washington will join Seattle as the top two seeds. The top two get byes to the semifinals.

Also, Phoenix isn't technically in the Pacific time zone. They stay on Mountain Standard all year long.

I thought they have their own time zone ? Arizona ?

Here is what the Sun posted on their web site http://sun.wnba.com/playoff-central-2018/ :

TUE AUG 21 8 PM 1ST ROUND ELIM.
TUE AUG 21 10 PM 1ST ROUND ELIM.
THU AUG 23 8PM 2ND ROUND ELIM.
THU AUG 23 10 PM 2ND ROUND ELIM.
SUN AUG 26 3 PM SEMIFINALS 1
SUN AUG 26 5 PM SEMIFINALS 1
TUE AUG 28 8 PM SEMIFINALS 2
TUE AUG 28 10 PM SEMIFINALS 2
FRI AUG 31 8 PM SEMIFINALS 3
FRI AUG 31 10 PM SEMIFINALS 3
SUN SEP 2 3 PM SEMIFINALS 4*
SUN SEP 2 5 PM SEMIFINALS 4*
TUE SEP 4 8 PM SEMIFINALS 5*
TUE SEP 4 10 PM SEMIFINALS 5*
THU SEP 6 8 PM FINALS 1
SUN SEP 9 3:30 PM FINALS 2
WED SEP 12 8 PM FINALS 3
FRI SEP 14 8 PM FINALS 4*
SUN SEP 16 8 PM FINALS 5*

If this is accurate and two teams out of the Dream, Mystics, and Sun finish 3rd and 4th I wonder who gets stuck with a 10 PM start for their round 2 game? My guess is the team finishing third would get choice of time.

They would likely change the times to 7pm & 9pm.

Seattle has the #1 seed locked in and Minnesota & Dallas are locked into the #7 & #8 seeds. Connecticut is locked into the #4 seed. Two of Sunday's games are meaningless: Dallas @ Seattle & Indiana @ Chicago. I think the Lynx rest Whalen & Augustus tomorrow and Mystics get the #2 seed. Atlanta loses to Vegas. Sun might rest a player or two(Ogwumike & ???) vs. LA. Sparks win and get the #5 seed. Liberty beat the Mercury since Phoenix will know the outcome of the Sparks-Sun game and can't get the #5 seed and rest Taurasi.

I never thought of this until now, but they I wonder if they should have every game on the last day of the season start at the same time, like they do in the MLB on the last day of the season, to avoid situations where a team in a late game can decide to rest players, etc, based on the result of an early game?

Kara Lawson suggested this in her last broadcast. Definitely should happen along with ESPN adopting a flex schedule.

Phoenix first round game will be at Arizona State. Will at least 50% of these post season games be in their regular arenas?

As discussed elsewhere, not true.

If LA and Phoenix both win tomorrow, 4th/5th/6th is a three-way tie, which LA would win based on record vs .500 teams. So:

LA win + Phx win: #4 LA, #5 Phx, #6 Conn
Conn win + Phx win: #4 Conn, #5 Phx, #6 LA
Phx lose (other game irrelevant): #4 Conn, #5 LA, #6 Phx

Phoenix can pretty much pick their first-round opponent if they have a strong preference between Minnesota and Dallas, but they can't finish 4th. LA, even if they win their game on Sunday, would then be left hoping Phoenix win later on to get them the first-round bye.

Only problem is Phoenix would have to lose to NY.

Had to be included for the sake of hypothetical completeness, though. Wink
