The fact that someone thought sharing that would somehow be an "embarrassment" to her really doesn't understand human psychology very well.
(For those that don't know, the original twitter poster who unearthed this was a conservative troll/conspiracy nut. Since then it has gone viral with nearly all seeing her in a favorable light in it.)

That seemed to be fun.
Interesting that she went by Sandy then.
I like Alexandria better. At least if you're doing her full name. Otherwise I guess that Sandy is ok for family/close friends.

Many (most?) people with longer names use nicknames when they are younger and in more informal contexts and then use their full names professionally. It's no different than a Jennifer going by Jenny or a Michelle going by Shelly.

what IS it about her that has the right FREAKED? It's amusing, and very interesting to me.

It's her socialist Democrat label. She's different and came from nowhere. Republicans don't know what to make of her.

The fascination with her on both sides of the political spectrum is baffling.

Yeah, but she just doesn't look like a Sandy. More of a Lexie.

She’s a lady.
Republicans need to create a new witch to burn.

She was a (classy) firecracker on CBS, I thought. I hope she's not relegated to being a Bright-But-Brief flash in the pan....we definitely need MORE like here: politicians that didn't grow up in a privileged world, and are beholden to corporate money.

See, I’m only half in.
I like her. I think she’s intending to do good.
But she’s a politician now, not a protester. Setting the bar high also means knowing the details. If you don’t know them, then it’s jist empty promises.
The mistake the far left often makes is that those who care about policy don’t care about what is right, or the end goal. No, they just understand they are part of the system, and they must work within it to create quality change.
Again, I like her ideas, show me the policy.

What does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez know about tax policy? A lot.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/05/opinion/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-tax-policy-dance
Quote: |
I have no idea how well Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will perform as a member of Congress. But her election is already serving a valuable purpose. You see, the mere thought of having a young, articulate, telegenic nonwhite woman serve is driving many on the right mad — and in their madness they’re inadvertently revealing their true selves.
Some of the revelations are cultural: The hysteria over a video of AOC dancing in college says volumes, not about her, but about the hysterics. But in some ways the more important revelations are intellectual: The right’s denunciation of AOC’s “insane” policy ideas serves as a very good reminder of who is actually insane.
The controversy of the moment involves AOC’s advocacy of a tax rate of 70-80 percent on very high incomes, which is obviously crazy, right? I mean, who thinks that makes sense? Only ignorant people like … um, Peter Diamond, Nobel laureate in economics and arguably the world’s leading expert on public finance. (Although Republicans blocked him from an appointment to the Federal Reserve Board with claims that he was unqualified. Really.) And it’s a policy nobody has ever implemented, aside from … the United States, for 35 years after World War II — including the most successful period of economic growth in our history. |

It's this kind of thinking that makes it very easy for her detractors/The Deplorables/etc. denounce her as a "socialist" or--it's probably coming soon--a "communist": Why should the wealthy be penalized cuz they're rich, right?!! It's THEIR money....or IS it....?
I'm sick and tired of The Wealthy behaving as though they've worked hard for and EARNED every penny of their wealth. The vast majority of them, like Donald Trump have never EVER cleaned toilets or mined coal to get their *start*.....they were born rich, and have used their wealth to GROW their wealth. And then, THEY finagle every which way to AVOID any taxes. (can't wait for Congress to shed light on his returns!).
Interesting how folks with more humble routes to their wealth (Buffet, Gates, et. al.) are not mortified by such tax rates.
I agree, Merc....AOC definitely needs to see The Big Picture in a way only experience can afford her, and while she might embrace the label of "Radical", she'll do well to open her mouth AND her ears equally. But really....it's fantastic to see a young woman of color with substance and intellect enter the old white male bastion of Congress. Obviously, she's not the first, but she's certainly the most heralded in recent times.....something to motivate young people to pay heed to their political stakes.

Ocasio-Cortez was showing a bio of her growing up in the Bronx where she was born, but Wikipedia says at age five her family (the father is an architect per the article but elsewhere it is reported that her father was a "small business owner") moved to Yorktown Heights in Westchester County. I don't think she is a "rags to riches" story but she does claim that her mother "scrubbed toilets" so they could move to Yorktown Heights.
The median household income in Yorktown Heights is:
Median Income Under 25 $32,500
Median Income 25-44 $104,557
Median Income 45-64 $130,083
Median Income Over 65 $79,773
