Sherri's SOS last year was probably the final straw that inched her team into the Big Dance last year, over (arguably) more deserving teams. This one isn't too bad, but they'd better win a fairly high percentage of them to avoid that kind of *squeaking-by* bizness.

Virginia has not released its non-conference schedule but it looks like Tina Thompson is packing a tough non-conference schedule for Virginia Cavaliers. It looks like they will play Mississippi State, Old Dominion, @South Florida and @Kentucky.

I knew they were hosting Notre Dame but had no idea they were going to play Miss. State this year. There are some good games in there but they need to win some of the games against tough opponents this season after having no good wins in non-conference play last season.

Sorry if this was discussed on a prior page of this thread, but did I read correctly elsewhere that SCar is playing Baylor this fall?

One of the more interesting and unexpected OOC matchups if this is true.

Did they lose a lot to graduation or will they still be strong?

They lost three time SoCon player of the year Kahlia Lawrence, arguably the greatest player in Mercer history, and Sydni Means, the team's all time assist leader. My guess is they'll be taking a step back.

ND finally released their schedule:

Harvard (Nov. 9)
Penn (Nov. 12)
at DePaul (Nov. 17)
Vancouver Showcase (Nov. 22-24)
Iowa (Nov. 29)
UConn (Dec. 2)
at Toledo (Dec. 8 )
Binghamton (Dec. 16)
Western Kentucky (Dec. 19)
Lehigh (Dec. 30)
at Marquette (Dec. 22)
Pitt (Jan. 3)
at Georgia Tech (Jan. 6)
Louisville (Jan. 10)
Wake Forest (Jan. 13)
at Virginia Tech (Jan. 16)
Boston College (Jan. 20)
at Tennessee (Jan. 24)
at UNC (Jan. 27)
at Clemson (Jan. 31)
Georgia Tech (Feb. 3)
at Miami (Feb. 7)
Florida State (Feb. 10)
at Boston College (Feb. 13)
at NC State (Feb. 18 )
Duke (Feb. 21)
at Syracuse (Feb. 25)
Virginia (March 3)

I'm so used to Marquette normally being on the schedule from time to time that I forgot that it's a home game for Ogunbowale.

I was curious about Lehigh, but it turns out that not only is former ND player Ariel Braker an assistant there, but they have a player who is from Mishawaka, so it's a home game for her.

One article on the schedule points out that this is the last season the ACC will have 16 conference games. Next year they will raise it to 18.

BTW, I was surprised when I checked out my post and saw Smileys in it, since I didn't put any in intentionally. Then I realized that when you have an "8" directly followed by a ")" it gets changed to a Cool

This used to bug me because I don't uses smilies-cum-emoticons-cum-emojis. You can turn them off in the reply box by checking "Disable Smilies in this post". I think you can turn them off permanently in your profile.

Does ND always play a home & home against BC? And if so, why? Syracuse would seem to be a more natural rivalry. Or Louisville.

https://www.sny.tv/uconn/news/uconn-releases-2018-19-womens-basketball-schedule/295377366

The University of Connecticut women's basketball team's 2018-19 schedule -- featuring 14 non-league games and 16 American Athletic Conference contests -- is out.

The Huskies, who will return three starters from last season's 36-1 club that advanced to the NCAA Final Four for a record 11th consecutive year, will face nine teams that played in the NCAA tournament, including national champion Notre Dame, Final Four participant Louisville, Elite Eight representative and 2017 national champion South Carolina, and AAC rival South Florida.

Six games will be played at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs with five -- including South Carolina -- being played at the XL Center in Hartford. Vanderbilt will face UConn at Mohegan Sun Arena.

There will be two first-time opponents: Mississippi in the first round of the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on Nov. 22, and Saint Louis on Dec. 4, which will be a homecoming game for St. Charles, Missouri, native Napheesa Collier.

UConn, which is 101-0 in AAC play, will open its league schedule on Jan. 6 at Houston. It will make its first trip to Wichita State on Feb. 26. The Shockers joined the AAC for the 2017-18 season.

Senior Day will be March 2 when Houston comes to Gampel Pavilion. If tradition holds, seniors Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson will have their names and numbers placed in the Huskies of Honor in a pregame ceremony. The regular season finale is March 4 at South Florida.

The AAC tournament will be played March 8-11 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

SNY will broadcast 15 games including the Senior Day matchup with Houston, a key AAC contest at Central Florida on Feb. 17, and non-league games against Vanderbilt on Nov. 17, DePaul on Nov. 28, and Seton Hall on Dec. 8. The Huskies will compete on ESPN or ESPN2 seven times.

BC and ND plays each other twice because of the whole Catholic school rivalry.

BC and ND plays each other twice because of the whole Catholic school rivalry.

Interestingly, while it's often mentioned that they are the only two Catholic schools playing Division 1 football, they had never played each other in football until a rarely recent 1975 and didn't play again in the regular season until 1987. But now they've played 24 times. They actually started playing each other more frequently in various sports when they were in the BE together. IIRC, they were also doubled up there frequently too.

But Boston College had no other logical pairing in the expanded ACC and there is no real history or rivalry to speak of between ND and either Syr or Louisville. If that was the only test, Pitt would be the obvious choice along with GT. ND has a very long athletic history with both of those schools. Far more than with BC.
