Monday Poll time!

All previous MVPs have met five standards

At least 43.4 FG%
At least 15.5 ppg
No more than three games missed
Play for a .500 or better team
Leads her team in scoring

Players who meets at least four of these standards are included in the poll

Right now it feels like:

1. Stewart
2. Cambage
3. Everyone else

I like the 4 out of 5 system. Produced a good list.

I'm sure the usual suspects will find reasons to complain

It’s through the efforts of one person and one person alone that we’re rid of the problematic MVP points system and pilight finally produced a palatable list of MVP candidates. No longer should we see a bench player as a MVP candidate. No longer should we see a list of candidates comprised mostly of guards. This is truly a day of celebration.

1.So if EDD plays 30 games, and Washington finishes with a 24 10 record.Delle Donne will be disqualified from the list because she missed 3 games?...... Laughing

2.I'm torn....Based on stats,Cambage should be 2nd in the MVP voting...But when you factor in defense, and Dallas' .500 record.Liz shouldn't be in the top 3.......Liz/Skylar deserve better(A new HC)

3.Minnesota's officially above .500.....Are Fowles and Moore back in the top 8 for MVP?

EDD has already missed 4 games so she can play 30 at most. Though if she can keep being the best player in the league it should not matter.

Cambage isn't winning a damn thing on a .500 team. Fowles putting up 18 and 12 shooting 60% is pretty incredible considering she's looked half-interested in a bunch of games (but again would need the team to improve for anyone to really care). And are we really going to continue without someone from the best team in the league in this conversation? If Gray/Nneka/Parker are keeping each other out, why isn't Loyd restricting Stewart or Taurasi limiting Griner?

(ETA: Comments based on the names I've seen people actually put forward, rather than pilight's list)

FWIW, Quigley is one of four players who meets all five criteria. Cambage, N Ogwumike, and Stewart are the others.

Not listed: Elena Delle Donne at 29.8, Candace Parker at 26.4

fwiw, PER is a great barometer for the MVP award, here's every MVP in league history and their PER ratings:
2017 Fowles 30.8 - 1st
2016 N. Ogwumike 31.3 - 1st
2015 Delle Donne 32.8 - 1st
2014 Moore 29.4 - 1st
2013 Parker 30.6 - 1st
2012 Charles 23.3 - 9th (Fowles 1st with 27.5, didn't make playoffs)
2011 Catchings 24.6 - 5th (Parker 1st with 26.7, only played 17 games) - funny how she got her lifetime achievement MVP the year before she had a more worthy MVP season
2010 Jackson 27.9 - 1st
2009 Taurasi 25.4 - 2nd (Jackson 1st with 26.1, played 26 games)
2008 Parker 27.4 - 2nd (Taurasi 1st with 29.7)
2007 Jackson 35.0 - 1st Shocked
2006 Leslie 27.8 - 3rd (Jackson 1st with 34.7)
2005 Swoopes 26.6 - 2nd (Jackson 1st with 26.7)
2004 Leslie 25.3 - 4th (Griffith 1st with 28.8, only averaged 14.5 points)
2003 Jackson 32.1 - 1st
2002 Swoopes 25.5 - 3rd (Catchings 1st with 30.6 - why did she need the 2011 one in the first place? She played 36.5 minutes per game too, that's nuts)
2001 Leslie 27.7 - 2nd (Griffith 1st with 28.4)
2000 Swoopes 32.0 - 1st
1999 Griffith 31.9 - 1st
1998 Cooper 31.1 - 1st
1997 Cooper 32.2 - 1st

You're right, had to look at the Mystics record, and they are 4th in the standings which does make EDD a top 5-10 candidate for sure.

Not crazy about the Mystics SOS though(played the Fever, Sky, & Aces 6 times) which is why I don't see the "MVP of the whole league" angle yet.
