Plenty of candidates. NY Fans have made passionate arguments that Smith deserves the award, but here are the leaders in no particular order.
Smith - NY - took a 22 win team down to 7 while arguably getting the steal of the draft and keeping almost the same roster.
Williams - Dallas. Hard to argue with adding a world class player, an all rookie candidate, getting a worse record, a 9 (or was it 10) game losing streak and getting fired.
Poky - Indiana. No one can beat 6 wins. Even worse than last years' 9 wins.
Stocks - Chicago. Two lottery picks and the team only wins one more game than last year.
Reeve - MN. Just ask SpaceJunkie.

Two-woman race. Stocks and Smith.

I mean, after looking at the records @pilight posted in the other thread, it has to be Katie Smith, doesn't it? The only team in the WNBA this year to have a losing record, when either leading or tied after three quarters? Even the Fever went 5-4 under those conditions.

Smith by two lengths over Pokey, both of whom trailed the field.
In addition to achieving the worst record in Liberty history and a deplorable 0-13 record to finish the season -- how many teams have ever done that? -- Smith seemed never to know whom to start (except Charles) and never seemed to have any discernible depth chart or rotation priority. It seemed almost as if her starting lineups and substitutions were determined by dice rolls, a dart board or palm reading.
I see no reason to hold on to Smith or Pokey. Williams is already gone and I can see rationales for retaining Stocks and, of course, Reeve. |

How about Fred ? Going after your boss physically is never a good move. I doubt he gets another job in the league again.

In fairness to stocks,Chicago did lose Breland,Pondexter,IMS and Young.
IMS played 22 gms for Chicago in 2017.
Young played 24 gms for Chicago in 2017.
So yeah, they added DD & GB...but loss CP,JB,TY and IMS.

Losing Cappie Pondexter in 2018 is addition by subtraction.

He'll be 62 next season. Not many teams hire head coaches that old unless they have track records substantially superior to Williams.
