Imma need my Merc to get back on the right track, and Liberty are a lost cause anyway.

No Coleman tonight (ankle). Hopefully this means more minutes for Nurse.

Maybe we are down for the count this season. Maybe we are not. But I can tell you there will be two guys at the game who are going to do their level best to be loud enough to get the rest of the building as loud as it can be.

Liked the body language coming out. Lots of smiles and energy. Looks like someone had a team meeting yesterday.

Not really. Phoenix needed to shoot 69% from 3, including a number of contested ones, to be up 7 at half. I think the Libs are playing much better tonight than in awhile. Phoenix is just playing really well.

Good to see the players who earned minutes get them. Hopefully the game is close enough for Boyd’s tempo to impact the fourth. Other than DT I thought when we got running it changed the game in terms of Phoenix showing some fatigue.

Ugh. This is becoming a nightmare. At least they forced Phoenix to play well to win. On another note Tina and Piph look old.

Vaughn just needs to go. Can we pick up Hamson? Kaylee Jensen? Kym Hampton?

I wasn't able to watch the game. Could only glance at the box score here and there. I see that Phoenix crushed New York in the first and third quarters, when I'm assuming that Kia Nurse and Brittany Boyd were mostly on the bench.

Nurse played about 19 minutes (very few in the first half), Boyd about 16. I'm assuming from my glances here and there that each was on the court a good deal in the 4th quarter (with New York way behind).

I'm sorry to be a broken record, but why are these two young players not on the court more? Who is playing so wonderfully to keep them on the bench?

P.S. Seven assists for Boyd in 16 minutes!

Whats been up with charles? Shes seemed to have lost all her aggression this season. Jump shot after jump shot sprinkled with a few hooks.

This is one of those things that could be coaching/philosophy related.

I'm just speculating but I bet Laimbeer was more of a get your ass in the paint coach and Smith is more either a players coach do what you feel most comfortable with, or with all the 3s is going for more of a transition, position-less, analytics direction like the Golden State's and Houston's of the NBA minus the accuracy and over all talent.

She should go after Gabby Williams she could fit well with NY in this philosophy?

I'm no eggspert, but I'm betting that the Golden State model probably doesn't work w/o the talent and accuracy. Kind of like the cartoon characters in Space Jam trying to win w/o Michael Jordan.

Last year, Piph’s regular season was similar to Toliver’s. I guess if you had told me before the season had started that Piph and Sugar would COMBINE for about 11 points and 30% shooting AND that Stokes would barely play (she may still be hurting), then I guess maybe I’d have agreed that the Libs would be pretty bad. Scoring is up around the league and the Libs can’t break 70. Even worse, they’re falling back on trying to get it to Tina because they can’t create anything else. None of the guards beat anyone one-on-one to create open space for anyone else.

Other teams have players who can do that. We don’t. Thus we have to work excruciatingly hard just to get open shots. And we don’t have Stokes on D to bail us out.

Those winnable games that we lost early look bad now. At 6-7 a turnaround would be possible. At 4-9 it’s a disjointed bunch with no consistent point guard presence (Boyd is improving but I’m talking all-around presence) and no post presence on D. If this is what we are it’s pretty grim, since in this latest stretch we are the worst team in the league.

I had warned against this years back...constructing a team in a Laimbeer mold could be dangerous when he left. Having no point guard presence and being too reliant on Stokes to be the sole perimeter defensive presence has proven to be a bad combo. This is the same way the team was in 2016 without Stokes and Wright down the stretch.

Nurse is at least a future piece and if we wind up with the fourth pick in the draft there’s a couple of worthwhile 6’7” post players. Beyond that hopefully there’s a move to be made this year but it’s hard to trade players who are playing poorly so I doubt it.

If this year becomes just rooting for the development of Nurse, Boyd and Zahui then I guess it just is what it is.
