Dunno what you're on about with 'Game 1 of 5'. This ain't the Russian playoffs, it's the EuroLeague Women Final Four weekend. Two semis on Friday (Sopron vs Yakin Dogu is three hours after the Kursk-UMMC game), final and third-place game on Sunday. |

#7 Maria Vadeeva C (LAS)
#44 Raisa Musina SF (PHX)
Vadeeva and Musina are both listed at 6'4" some places and 6'3" others. And a video on youtube shows them hugging as they get their U19 medals and they are very close in height (and build). If Musina can play small forward at 6'3", I don't understand why Vadeeva (who probably could be listed as a power forward as well) is getting all the ink and hype and Musina none. Or are they both power forwards and Vadeeva is just a better version?

From matchup against the U19 Team USA musina looked like the more polished player. Put me in the mind of Petrovic, Vadeeva seemed more like a Katie Feenstra type with a face up jumper and making shots near the basket. But thats just 1 game so i cannot be sure.

Because Vadeeva's been a dominant interior presence for her national team and very effective rotation cog for top club teams since she was about 17. Musina's shown promise for age-group squads and occasionally gets off the bench in garbage time at club level (and needs to go play somewhere where she actually gets to play).
They're the same height in the same way that, say, Kelsey Griffin and Elizabeth Williams are listed at about the same height. It doesn't stop one clearly being a true post, and one being a swing forward who's a 3 or 4 depending on circumstance. |

Anna Cruz should be available for Kursk too.
Jamierra Faulkner will probably suit up for Ekaterinburg instead of one of the other players.

Are they really the same in build? Musina is rail thin and Vadeeva is not.
Musina should get at least some hype. People just don't bother doing any research on these players. She's significantly further from the finished product than Vadeeva, who is basically a prototypical scoring-minded post player even at this age. Musina can run the pick and roll as the ball handler and take the ball up the court herself to initiate the offense. Long term, she's probably a PF, but she's too slight to guard most older post players right now. Vadeeva can play the PF on offense with the right C, but she's really only a C on defense. |

And broader, although Vadeeva isn't built like a bruiser. Doesn't seem that either one is long-armed, as in Stewart or Delle Donne, although it would be nice not to have to estimate arm length. Musina does look too thin for playing post in the WNBA.
|
Is she thinner than Stewie? or Sanders? Bonner? Seems like there are at least some pretty skinny posts.

Vadeeva comes off the bench and hasn't even come in yet. I suppose Griner would destroy her.

I don't think Angel started either and Piph is in plain clothes. Vadeeva has looked decent since she's been in.

UMMC needs to exploit Griner vs Vadeeva. Vadeeva up to two fouls.

He's right. Maya is the difference so far. The ball is moving so easily for UMMC. Let's see if Kursk can be more disruptive. They need Angel back in. All of the Kursk post have had problems with BG.
It is interesting to see how well Petrovic plays on this squad vs. Phoenix....
