I loved seeing Kim Little play again! Scotland did okay for themselves despite being the heavy underdogs.

Solid three games today. Italy upsets Australia with a goal in the final seconds. Jamaica played well against Brazil despite being the lowest ranked team in the tournament(53). Didn't think Scotland played all that well, feel England could have won 4-1 if they finished a few more of their chances.

GROUP C
Italy 2 - Australia 1
Brazil 3 - Jamaica 0

GROUP D
England 2 - Scotland 1

England probably should have won by more than one goal. Credit Scotland for making the game interesting against a more talented English side. I don't expect Scotland to make it out of that group. Little continues to be a joy to watch; she just doesn't have much support around her.

Group D probably has the weakest team in Argentina. If Scotland can rack up some goals, they can finish third and advance to the knockout stage. They'd end up playing France or Germany in the next round though.

So much for Argentina being the weakest team. They pull off a draw with Japan(0-0). The other match today(GROUP E) was Canada 1 - Cameroon 0.

Asia has had the worst showing in the first round.

I don't know much about soccer but I've read that North Korea is a much better team than Thailand.

Thailand is only here because the AFC screwed up the draw in qualifying. North Korea should be here instead.

BTW, 13-0 is a new WWC record. Good for USA, bad for Thailand. You would have figured they'd try and improve over their 2015 appearance.

Thailand actually has 2 American-born players, including a goalie named Tiffany Sornpao who plays for Kennesaw State in NCAA. Which makes me wonder about some of the NCAA teams - she didn't enter the game and the Thai goalie of this game (Sukanya Chor Charoenying) looks like the worst ever. At 5'5'' I'm not even sure if she can touch the crossbar.

Pack mentality: How the USWNT geared up for a month in France
Charlotte Gibson (ESPN)

Curious about the USWNT's packing list? Here's how head equipment manager Ryan Dell got the job done:

--- 400 jerseys
--- 120 pairs of cleats
--- 60 soccer balls
--- 2 heat presses
--- 1 vinyl cutter
--- 12 large bottles of shampoo, 12 large bottles of conditioner, 20 large bottles of body wash
--- 12 five-pound boxes of flavored gum
--- 7 massage tables
--- 48 women's parka jackets, 24 men's parka jackets
--- 1 American flag

In Group C, Brazil had a 2-0 lead over Australia in the first half, before the Matildas scored in stoppage time. In the second half, Australia scored (at 58') to tie the game before an "own goal" by Brazil's Monica Hickmann Alves. Australia completes the comeback and wins, 3-2.

After Australia was shocked by Italy in thee World Cup opener (on the last kick of the game), this was a must-win game for the Matildas.

Australia closes group play against Jamaica and will almost certainly advance to the Round of 16.
