Has Laimbeer ever drafted a mid-major, much less one in a draft this deep?

He has drafted a few mid-major players during his time in Detroit.

Refreshed and invigorated, with the 33rd pick, the Sun select Tinara Moore, 6'3, Central Michigan University.

He drafted Cheryl Ford, who played at a mid-major.

Also Jenni Lingor from Missouri State, Ambrosia Anderson from BYU, Zane Telane from Western Illinois, Natasha Lacy from UTEP, and Valeriya Berezhynska from Rice.

having watched her a bunch this year, I would be happy for her if she got drafted. A really solid citizen. I hope she at least gets to play overseas.

Probably not your typical mid-major back in the day.

I think he learned his lesson. In this draft class, I’m predicting no mid-majors for Laimbeer. Don’t let me down, Laimbeer!

Jill Barta is probably the most prominent mid-major in this class. I suppose she could be a slight possibility for him. Would anybody describe her as a beast?

Barta would be best is she can transition to the 3 in the WNBA. She's too small to be a post and will get easily out-performed inside. Highly skilled player, strong shooter and solid ball handler.

I’m not counting Natalie Butler as a mid-major. She’s a UConn transfer (like Delle Donne) that Laimbeer could be interested in, but LVA is pretty full at post.

I could see him going for another post at 13, especially if he thinks they are best available. He seems to favor size across the board.

Either a PF or a PG. Gulich might drop to him at #13, but neither Bone or Swords can slide to PF. Possibly Mavunga, Hines-Allen or I could see Laimbeer taking a chance with Jill Barta. If not, possibly Loryn Goodwin or Lexie Brown if she drops to #13.

Mavunga would be a good pick up for LVFO at #13 or possibly even Nared/Thomas

I agree, I think Gulich (if she falls) or Mavunga would be really good gets for him, and I’d say they are better than whatever is on the end of their bench. I also don’t think he should be relying on Swords for much. If Brown does somehow drop, she should absolutely be the pick. That’s a steal.

He could but he’s got Hamby, who isn’t as bad as people think, and Burdick.

Wilson/Harrison/(Hamby or Burdick)
Bone/Swords

He probably could bring in somebody like Butler to compete with Swords or Hamby in a later pick, but I think with a good pick like #13 he might address another area. He did sound like he could be interested in Vadeeva if she fell to #13. I wonder how he feels about Gulich or Russell.

Good point, but I could also see him making a trade to clear up additional space in the post, and address a need in another area. JSpoon has come up with imo some realistic trades involving Harrison that could do that.
