Any love for the Frozen Four this weekend? 1-seed Clarkson vs Ohio St, and 2-Wisconsin vs 3-Colgate in the semis on Friday, and the finals on Sat, all in Minneapolis.

Minnesota is in its Olympic Year doldrums, so I am not as excited as most years. I am already in "next year" more where I am giddy over the incoming freshman class and the return of our Olympians.

But I will still be there at Ridder to cheer against Wisconsin and for OSU (as they are an awesome story).

It is nice to see Colgate make it as well.

My prediction is Clarkson will win.

It's nice to see a sport where David can actually take on Goliath with some expectation of coming out on top. It'll never happen in women's basketball again.

One of the things I love about Women's Hockey is how all it takes is a hot goalie to create an upset. Or just a well played game with a little puck-luck.

It is why I consider the Gophers' 62 game winning streak--not just undefeated, but winning--one of the most amazing feats I have ever witnessed in sports (with my bias fully admitted).

Even though Clarkson still seems like a newbie, it would be nice to see a 5th team win a title. Go Colgate and/or Ohio State!

Anyone but Wisconsin. Very Happy

I wouldn't sleep on OSU this year. They swept Minnesota twice during the regular season and swept Wisconsin in Wisconsin late in the season. They also handled BC with ease in the quarterfinals.

Sauve is a hell of a goaltender.

But she is going to have to be to stop Gabel.

Colgate has a nice team, and Wisconsin is beatable this year, so I think it is possible for them to make a push. But any title hopes for them I think requires a OSU upset over Clarkson. While they did pull an OT upset over Clarkson early in the season, the last two meetings they lost fairly solidly. Personally, I don't think they match up well against them.

But Clarkson is going to be the team to beat. With Loren Gabel's ability to produce points, Harmon on the blue line, and Tiley in net...that is a lot of talent. And I think they ride deeper than any other team in the field.

Wisconsin...blah. who wants to talk about them.

Clarkson isn't quite a newbie...they won titles in 2014 and 2017. Colgate is the newbie in the FF.

Games are being broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
Friday (EDT)
5 pm Clarkson vs OSU
8 pm Colgate vs Wisc
Sunday Championship
3 pm ???

Clarkson vs. OSU has been an amazing game so far. Good, fun crowd here.

Both goalies standing on their heads.

OSU had a line rush with numbers going, but a nice stick by Clarkson leads to a 2 on 1 the other way. Good pass to Gabel, and Sauve had no chance.

Clarkson wins in OT. Great game.

Go Colgate!

I've had zero success actually getting a stream from BTN.

ETA: Yes! I've finally gotten the Wisc-'gate game to load. Yay!

Wisc fans out in force here at Ridder.

Right now all the energy is in Wisc favor. Ice seems a bit slanted toward Colgate's end. Hopefully for 'gate they can weather this and steal a goal somewhere.

And there it is. Nice move and a sweet wrister by Breanne Wilson-Bennett!

1-0 Colgate.

Hopefully that takes a little steam out of the crowd and lets 'gate level the ice some.

Slow start there for Colgate. Hopefully they can maintain some momentum after that goad.

Badgers starting the second much like the first. Ice is tilted again. If the Raiders can hold them off, and Vandyk continues to stand strong, they will likely have some opportunities.

And as I was writing that Wellhausen ties it up with a relentless flurry.

1-1

All momentum is in the Badgers' favor. And are going on the powerplay. Dangerous minutes for 'gate.

Raiders had a grade A shorthanded scoring opportunity, but came up empty.

Penalty killed. Hopefully some momentum now after the kill. Badgers outshooting the Raiders 20-9. If Wisconsin scores next, I don't like Colgate's chances. It is basically a home crowd for the Badgers.

GOAL! Breanne Wilson-Bennett once again, scoring on the 5 on 3.

Badgers lucky no extra time for a cheap shot they dished out on the way to the box.

End of 2: Raiders 2, Badgers 1

My prediction for the 3rd is that we will see more of the same with the Badgers coming out strong. Whether or not the Raiders weather it will decide this game.

So far the Badgers have been the better team for vast swathes of this game, but Colgate has made the most of their opportunities.

Colgate came out in that period like they just wanted to sit on the 1-0 lead. They're lucky that Van Dyk brought her A game. Hopefully they won't try to repeat that strategy in the final period. And that was a real cheap shot by Wisc. I don't know how the officials ignored that. And Wisc is lucky that goal didn't come a few seconds earlier.

The only thing I can think of for not calling that is because they are aware they called a bit of a soft penalty on that original hooking call, and then had no choice but call the second. Calling the shot would have almost certainly led to a goal, and they didn't want to be the cause of a swing goal like that. Fortunately, Colgate took care of it on their own.

Historical factoid:

If Colgate actually manages to pull this out, it would be the first time in the history of the NCAA Women's Hockey National Championship that no WCHA team would be in the championship game.

Raiders did what they couldn't and gave the Badgers a power play.

Kepler capitalizes.

2-2.

Roque doesn't seem too bright. Dropping her shoulder like that was asking for a trip to the box.

Jessie Eldridge with a power play goal!

3-2 Colgate.

But then take a quick penalty.
