The company filed for Chapter 11 last September, so this should not be a surprise. But I am a Toys R Us kid!

So far they're mostly focusing on shuttering the Babies'r'Us stores in my area, though my nearest Toys'r'Us is closing. But I read one article that suggests the rest of the chain might follow suit.

I think we are heading for a day when there are no local stores. I just wish that the big box stores or other companies had gotten into the delivery business better versus Amazon.com. It may end up that virtually everything is ordered from Amazon.com. Although at some point, that would require the government to break them up for being a monopoly.
