I wouldn’t exactly call it a prediction, but I thought Westchester made the most sense if they remained in the NYC area.

Yikes , Maybe those attendance #'s of the past were a bit inflated Much if they believe 5000 is serviceable for the liberty ?

They probably assume that many of them won't schlep out to Westchester

We shall see. The fans didn't make the trip to Newark, NJ. So will they make the trip to Westchester?

Trip prices should drop. Westchester Knicks tickets range from $46 - $20.

From the article:

Quote:
The reasons behind their choice to use this facility can be for a number of reasons. For one, it probably will save the league a ton of money when it comes to rent, because it is no secret that the cost of renting any of the major arenas (especially in New York City) per game can be astronomical.

Does this imply the league is taking over the franchise, or is it maybe just sloppy writing?

Season tickets for 2018 were being sold immediately after the '17 season ended. Ticket reps have been unreachable since the New Year.

Just financially it was their best option. I have to imagine Barclays was $$$. Who knows about Nassau or Prudential?

He probably meant “team”.

And all this isn’t confirmed yet, which is why I didn’t post a topic on it like it is confirmed. This guy could be no more connected than Barcoff.

If this is true, fuck the fuck out of this bullshit. A weekend plan would barely be viable for us.

I still hope they play those 6 games at MSG if that offer from Jimmy 'Jackass' Dolan is still on the table.

A LOT of people are not going to go to games there. 5000 seats is actually enough. They’ll actually be lucky if they get 4000 fans per game. Same thing will happen when DC moves to their tuna can. No one is going to go. I think the DC arena only holds 4500. They’ll get half that. Same thing in Dallas, playing at the smaller arena they play in. No one goes. These smaller arenas may be cheaper to rent out, but when no one goes to the games, they’re still not going to make any profits. It’s the beginning of the end

Not seeing any of the major women's bball writers (Feinberg, Voepel) tweet about this nor Hoopfeed, Hoopism, DishNSwish, etc...

So, not confirmed? Just not familiar with the source here.

Pros here are the Liberty are staying in New York as a franchise. Cons are obvious (small arena, not in urban setting) - but perhaps the new ownership group has negotiated and secured a few MSG dates.

When you think that starting in 2019, 5 teams will be playing in arenas that seat under 10k. How much can the league really improve on attendance this way?

Well, the article did say that there is "still no word yet on who the new owner(s) will be", and the season/draft is coming up, so maybe it is for the time being... Idea

If the teams in small arenas can fill up its much better for the league to create a demand to go to games and I dont see why being in a giant space is a good thing?

It’s all about broadcasting rights. Attendance for sports in general is down as people become more economically sensible. Why pay big bucks to go to the game when you can watch on your 65” and rising big screens in the comfort of your own home?

Although, people were going crazy trying to attend the South Carolina vs Mississippi St last night. Sold out and there was even some hardcore scalping going on. Maybe the league should think about a team in Starkville.

But that's a big assumption. I can tell you right now that attendance in Westchester would a) drop like a rock, b) probably be about the same percentage of capacity used as current attendance at MSG.

I know, speaking for myself and Happycappie, that I would have to cut back to a partial plan at best if the Liberty moved to Westchester. I say this as a fan who's been willing to travel and who made the hike out to Newark for damn near every game for three years. I say this as a fan of low-major women's basketball who's been to games at some truly embarrassing facilities.

Can I get a "FUCK YOU DOLAN" from the choir?
