She played one year in the WNBA, with the 2008 Chicago Sky, and also played overseas.

She is currently the coach of her high school alma mater, Southern Lab in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

When she returned to Baton Rouge last summer Chaney learned that her SLHS coach, Henry Combs, had retired from the school and accepted a job at Friendship Capitol.

"I knew I wanted to coach at Southern Lab," Chaney said. "Whenever I was home, I used to come by and work out with the girls and see coach Combs. I asked him to give me maybe two more years. I thought I would play until I was 34. But when I found out coach Combs had retired, I applied."

Chaney said she was interviewed on a Friday and started teaching/coaching the following Monday. She has no regrets and has embraced a role that is a bit different than she expected.

Sophia Witherspoon is in her seventh season of coaching Central High School in Florida. They play nationally ranked Winter Haven Saturday.
