I would be willing to believe that the Lynx might just stand pat and try to add either a combo guard or a PG. They might be able to get Dionnah Jackson. There just really isn't a good reason to go for McCarville unless they are trading Tamika, which they're not, or Hayden, which I doubt.
If they were guaranteed a way to get McCarville, I would think that trading Hayden for Ivey and Indi's first rounder would work for me.

Possibility of a sign-and-trade for Darling.

bingo, and it's done.
Darling to Charlotte for the Sting's second-round pick (17th overall).
Not earth-shattering, but probably a good move for both teams.

So is this implying Harrower will be back?

could it be a "family" move for Darling? Does the baby's father maybe or her family live in the area?

you're right -- it's Darling and 24 for 17. Sorry about that.
The Lynx are expecting Harrower back.
"At this time, we expect that Kristi Harrower will be in a Lynx uniform in2005 after missing last year due to the Olympics," said Roger Griffith, Lynx Chief Operating Officer. "With Kristi, Helen, Amber Jacobs and Nuria Martinez we had an excess at the point guard position and decided this was in the team's best interest."
I think Darling was leaving regardless, possibly in part for family reasons. This way the Lynx got a little in return.

The real reason is according to the Sting website today is Alison Feaster's birthday, so they got her Helen and the triplets!

only half-right, Admiral. Minny didn't get much, but it gave up nothing in return.

Babies, plural, for her-- three of 'em (and they're toddlers now). I forget what the babies' dad does, but Darling herself is an assistant coach at the University of Memphis, which is closer to Charlotte than to the Twin Cities (a LOT closer if you're driving rather than flying).
I'm surprised by this move, but only because of the history between Darling and Suzie (Penn State, then the Rockers). Either it means Harrower's coming back, or it means we're looking at Amber Jacobs plus one or more rookies at PG. which might be OK. Anyone who can consistently get the ball to the high post, or to the baseline, or to Katie Smith, without turning it over would be fine.

Martinez is a point guard? I thought she was a forward who could pass.
Harrower is easily better than Darling. I also noticed that some people on the other board were implying that Darling is the successor to Staley? Huh? I like Helen but her game is not starting calibre (at the moment anyways). |

Never seen her but she is listed @5-9 so she is a pretty SMALL forward.
I'm doing a lot of 'reacalling' so I could be way off (not the 1st time) but I recall someone posting that she was playing the point on this team in Spain. Can't read spanish so the Eruo Link here doesn't help me.
Kegs, do you (or anyone else) have the link to Kristi's web site ?

Just checked up on Martinez. You're right - she's a combo guard (must have been thinking of other Euro players). Height listings vary from 5'7 to 5'9. It appears she averaged more turnovers than assists at Athens (eep). |

Martinez's current statline from Spain, where she has played professionally at the point guard position since the age of 15:
13 pts, 4 assists, 4 rebs, 49%fg, 41%3pt. In Spain she is probably as popular, if not more than Valdemoro. In Athens, the Spanish Olympic coach never played her at the point position. However, she is credited with helping Spain beat Poland last summer in the European championships (14 points off the bench) that led to Spain qualifying for the Olympics.

Between injuries and Spanish Olympic prep, Martinez saw either no minutes at all, or next to none, last year. She's in effect a rookie, as much so as any other Euro new to the W. I don't imagine the Spanish assist and rebound lines tell us much about how she'll do over here, though 41% from 3-ville looks promising, especially given how many three-point shots the Lynx like to take. (Yes, too many, but it's nice if you make 'em.)

I said that Keegs. Partially due to the fact I don't see anyone in the pipeline to take Dawn's place. Helen wouldn't be a long term, Sue Bird/Lindsay Whalen type solution, but considering her experience and steadiness, she could be a short term caretaker IMO.
