Which is it: ND is stronger at every position except Russell or including Russell?

Arike is the best guard at this point in time. Russell is better than Shepard, although Shepard has been playing better lately so it will be an interesting matchup. Other than that, I don't think there's a clear cut advantage for either team in the starters. Tenn's bench is waaaay deeper than ND, since half their team seems to be injured, and Holly has been using it quite well. IMO this could be the difference in the game.

No, Notre Dame is definitely not better at every position.

ND does not have a PG, so Westbrook probably wins that comparison even though she is a freshman. Marina is a better shooter and a very deceptive driver, but she has problems bringing the ball up the court.

Arike is better than than Meme Jackson or Hayes.

Jackie Young is better than freshman Rennia Davis.

Jaime Nared is better than Kathryn Westbeld. Far quicker and a better jumper.

Shepard vs. Russell is interesting. Shepard sometimes has trouble getting her shot off vs. shot blockers. I think she is quicker than Russell, but I think each will score fairly easily against the other. The big question whether Tennessee will have the patience to get the ball into Russell.

I think Muffet is a far better coach. I think Tennessee has a far deeper and higher quality bench.

UTK has only ten players and I see only three benchers usually playing in close games: Hayes, Green and Dunbar.

Notre Dame has only 2 scholarship players on the bench (post Kristina Nelson and forward Danielle Patterson), and neither would play if the injured players (2 forwards, 2 guards) were available. Notre Dame has been using 6'3" Danielle Patterson as a guard because the ND only has three perimeter players and all 3 start (Arike, Marina, Jackie).

Who knows? Louisville won at GTech 77-74 on December 28th.

Notre Dame won at GTech 77-54 on Jan 7th.

Then Notre Dame was destroyed at Louisville on Jan 11th 100-67. So you really have to look at a whole body of work to determine who is better than whom. There's also a whole lot of variance that cannot be explained. Even after tonight we will be unable to answer whether Louisville is better than Tennessee.

So Heisenberg's uncertainty principle operates in more than my avatar. Too bad. I don't like change or relativism.

Good fortune to both teams. I do believe I'll be in the very unusual position of rooting for Tennessee. However, sometimes I really don't know whom I'm rooting for until a crunch time sparks a feeble direction in my mostly vestigial adrenal gland.

ND puts a mainly small, slow white team on the court.

If McGraw coached Tenn, this would be a 20-pt LV win.

But, she doesn't.

Tennessee is playing great basketball. How much credit does Holly Warlick get for the improvement this season?

This looks like the Louisville game. Notre Dame is sleepwalking again.

Based solely on the 1Q, UTK looks stronger at every position . . . including coach? Quite frankly, I can't recall a Holly team getting so many layups against a (usually) top defensive team.

Maybe things will change.

Credit goes to
1. The departure of a couple of toxic players.
2. Good recruiting.
3. CHW.

ND, as presently constituted, looks a pedestrian Top 15 team.

It would be nice if the guy would actually call the game instead of being a third 'color' person.
