The Mercer Bears, in their first home game since December 21st, beat UNC Greensboro 80-57. Khalia Lawrence went over 2000 points for her career.

Versyp is winning enough to keep her job even if there was any inclination to replace her.

Yep. I think they are now 13-7, 4-2 in the conference and right in the thick of the bubble for the NCAA's.

Well here's an exercise in futility.

28 seconds remain in the SECOND OVERTIME and Clemson leads Boston College 62-61.

Clemson won 65-61 in DOT.

Miami also beat Syracuse.

I can't figure out Miami. They are erratic.

Villanova lost 79-77 to Penn - that was their only non-conference loss.

Villanova played a weak non-conference schedule, other than their notable home win over Duke early on. They have some good players, notably Hannah Tucker and Kelly Jekot, and Louin inside, but unless they hit their outside shots they are only decent. They are the most overrated RPI team this year.

This weekend they play DePaul and Marquette at home and need at least one if not two wins to salvage their season.

Well let's have them get the win Friday against DePaul Smile. Marquette always seems to have trouble there and has played a home heavy schedule so far so this weekend's games worry me slightly. Sunday's Villanova-Marquette game will be on FS1.

I expected Gonzaga at St. Mary's to be a game but it looks like an easy win for the Zags.

ok, I spoke too soon. Inspired by Notre Dame, St. Mary's has come roaring back. 2 point game early in the 4th.

Gonzaga goes to 7-0 in the WCC. 71-65 Final

Didn't see this coming when I saw them lose in Las Vegas.

The Zags strength is in the post. Jill Barta and Zykera Rice are great at playing down low and the backups, the Wirth twins, are capable of providing decent relief minutes. Tall guard, Chandler Smith is a great third option who can rebound and score down low as well. Chandler is also good at distributing the ball. Those three are tops in offense.

Zags biggest area of improvement has probably been perimeter defense. Teams aren't shooting lights out on them like they were ealrier in the season. Also, Jess Lorea has emerged as a solid point guard. She isn't a prolific scorer but she doesn't turn the ball over which was a problem early on.

Outside of barta, the Zags cannot hit three pointers so thats an area that is considerably weaker than last years team.

Still early but I never thought I'd see the day DePaul only scored 5 points in a quarter. Villanova is up 21-5 on DePaul with 9:17 to go in the second quarter.

Butler is up big on Creighton so far - 29-13 with 6:49 to go in the 2nd quarter.

And Georgetown is on a big run leading Marquette 28-22 with 6:44 to go in the 2nd quarter. And if that isn't bad enough, someone needs to tell my daughter not to talk constantly while I'm watching a Marquette game Smile.

And this is why I never take any game Marquette plays for granted - they scored all of 4 points in the 2nd quarter and trail Georgetown 41-26 at the half after getting outscored 20-4 in that quarter. This team drives me crazy!!!

Villanova leads DePaul 48-31 at the half.

And Butler is up 38-27 over Creighton at the half.

I should revise that to say that someone she listens to should tell her that. The combination of Marquette playing horribly and the constant talking is not a good one for me Sad.

Marquette is down by 20 and can't score so now I'm just going to be a big Villanova cheerleader the rest of the night. I think MU bought into some of the 7-0 hype - could see them losing 3 in a row here - tonight at Georgetown, Sunday at Villanova and Mon. 1/29 at DePaul.

Just when I thought I could make sense out of the Big East, DePaul by 19 and Georgetown by 29. I am confused.

I can't say I expected Marquette to lose by this much but not surprised they will lose. DePaul losing at Villanova surprises me more than Marquette losing at Georgetown. It wouldn't be as bad for MU losing at GT if they could win Sunday at Villanova but I'm expecting another loss there Sad.

I expect DePaul to blow out GT on Sunday.

wondering if flu season is affecting some teams. Just seems like a few weird results happening. But then, there is definitely more parity all around IMO.

Arizona has been the worst major conference team so far this season, ranked 60 spots lower than Texas Tech, the next worst. But quietly they have been playing better their lest several games and, although they got blown out by Oregon St in their last outing, the Wildcats are up 35-28 on Colorado tonight at halftime.

Well for Marquette I don't think it was the flu. If I had to guess, I'd have to say it was buying into their hype too much. I'm surprised to see some MU fans on twitter surprised by this. If you saw the escapes against St. John's and Butler at home, this wouldn't really be a complete surprise. It's not the end of the world if they can find a way to win at Villanova but I see another loss at Villanova. Marquette has been home for 5 of those 7 wins in BE play so getting beat up big time on the road does not totally surprise me.

Villanova shot 57% FG, 48% 3pt, 100% FT and committed only 8 TO. Those are pretty tough stats to beat.

Hopefully they got all their good shooting stats out of the way and are awful on Sunday against Marquette Smile. Actually I expect DePaul to rebound and blowout GT and I expect Marquette to get blow out again at Villanova.
